WTK: Value of this FAL

Found this on Armslist and I want to know what the value is along with the scope.

It's a L1A1 Canadian Battle Rifle with a good shape bore that is bright and has good rifling. 24" barrel. Gas adjustable 308. Includes Trulux L2 A2 scope. Sight shows some wear. Includes strap as shown and one 20 round mag.

Depending on who made the receiver, its value is either $600 or $6000.

If its a registered full-auto receiver, the value goes even higher.

You need to provide a LOT more detail.

Most likely its an L1A1 parts kit, assembled by Century Arms, on a "Made in Canada" stamped IMBEL receiver.
In that case its probably worth about $900 if you include the sight.
Add $5 for the "strap."

Of course, on price of guns and ammo, sky's the limit between now and the secessions, or whatever it is that has the hive stirred up.

I just found out that this rifle was bought in '09 and brought from Canada!

Not assembled on a Canadian receiver but bought whole and brought in. This is a true L1A1 and not a parts build. I don't see how it's legal with the 1989 ban on importing "Assault Weapons". He said that "they" already appealed to the court whatever that means. Is this rifle somehow legal in the country seeing how he himself bought it Canada and brought it into the US? I don't think I want to touch this rifle.

Many of the "true" Canadian guns have sear-cut upper receivers.

Which would make it an illegally imported, unregistered machine gun.
Which he is offering for sale.

Interesting. Really no way to bring those into the US without some kind of law enforcement exemption.

No one really knows how many for sure, but lots of FALs were never registered when they were shifted to "prohibited" class in Canada. Not surprising that they would turn up from time to time under questionable circumstances.

Edited to add: though you said the seller said it wasn't a "parts gun" it is much likelier that this is one of the many FALs that CAI had assembled in Montreal and imported during the 1990s.

This FAL may have been a CAI gun but the fact is still there that the owner himself bought it within the borders of Canada and then brought it back to the US. No importation beyond sitting in his trunk and driving across the border happened from what I understand from what he has told me.

I would expect the scope alone worth some money.
I would be willing to pay some for a SUIT sight to accompany my L1A1 (original 1959 Enfield build)

As I understand it, while the act of importing it this way is illegal, if the rifle is not inherently illegal (i.e., a full-auto receiver), you wouldn't get in trouble for owning it as long as you can claim you did not know its provenance. There's lots of unpapered war bringbacks out there, and the ATF doesn't go after their owners as long as they're not banned in their own right.

It's an L1A1 which was never made full auto from the factory.

I would expect the scope alone worth some money.
I would be willing to pay some for a SUIT sight to accompany my L1A1 (original 1959 Enfield build)

If I bought the rifle, I would sell the sight. I looks as though it's worth around $250.
