Anyone here know what the "R2" represents? Just bought one from my local gun show today.

I have never seen such a mark and doubt it is factory. I would guess it was added and the gun refinished. If that is the case, I hope you paid accordingly.

The holster it came with

I would guess that was custom work for an individual. It's better than a guy scratching his name in the side of the gun with an electro-pencil, but not by much.

the grips seem very light colored...therefore not factory.

The "R2" is nothing I have seen or heard of...so probably custom.

From the small pic, the blue looks great.

I am thinking that this is a custom. Nice job too.

I have no idea who or what R2 is. Colt did use light wood near the end of the series 3 grips. I can't see enough of the ones in the pic to tell much else.

SIG088-- I did a google search on the "Colt Python R2" and found nothing.

It looks like whoever did the work did a nice job.
Congrats on beautiful python!

skidder.....I Google searched R2 as well, no luck. ApacheCoTodd....you have the same humor as I did when I said I will take it....is there a D2 out there somewhere I can get a hold of for a match set.

My uncle was a cop years ago when I was young, he had a Colt Python in his collection, always wanted one of my own ever since....now I do even though this one is most likely not factory original.

When you take it to the range, it's like going to the prom with the prettiest girl in school.

Thanks Jaymo.

This one here adds to my "snake" collection. I believe it was 1996 when I bought my first snake, the 8" Anaconda stainless for $699.99 which now thinking back, I probably didn't eat very well for a month but it was all worth it now to have two in my collection. Keeping my eyes out for a Diamond Back now. I did look at a Colt Detective snub nose .38 but it was well worn and priced higher than I would have paid, besides, I already had my Python in hand.

congratulations!

From what small amount of the Python I can see in the pics it looks like you got a nice one!

The R2 wouldn't bother me. You can let it mean anything you want. It looks to be professionally done which is a plus.

It might be some famous person's initials...like Rx2=RR=Ronald Reagan :scrutiny:

Or, maybe it belonged to a statistician:

R^2 (R-squared) gives you the percent of variance in the dependent variable that is predictable from the independent variables. It can also be interpreted as the extent to which the independent variables can predict the dependent variable. The closer it is to 1, the better the explanatory power of (all) the independent variables in the model, and needless to say, the closer to 0, the less explanatory power the model has.
:what:

I think that means Pythons are accurate shooters. :scrutiny:
