Ive sold my dear old 1990 v8 mustang for $3000. I want to take that cash and convert it to a single firearm. I have all my bases covered and don't need anything. If you were going to splurge on something, what would it be? I'm looking for ideas. Thanks.

I, personally, would get a Wilson Combat Professional Lightweight 1911.

Whatever you choose, have fun shopping!

No idea what you're normally into, but the stuff that would be crossing my mind personally with $3k laying around(assuming it's to be spent on a single gun... I'd honestly buy one for around $2k at most and buy a bunch of ammo and/or other stuff too)

-An original 1911

-Save another $700-1000 and buy a full auto lower priced SMG like a Mac10/11

-FN SCAR 17S

-Build a very nice AR with really nice optics and many extra magazines/ammo

If you want something that will keep its value, either a Sako TRG-22 or a GAP built rifle.

Do you want a wall hanger or a shooter?
Something to shoot. Doesn't need to be a daily shooter. Thanks to all the other replies in 10 minutes. The reason I say one firearm is that if I break the money up in smaller ammo units I can easily come up things. I'd rather use the money on one thing and it probably wouldn't be a semi auto. A side by side shotgun or nice single shot rifle comes to mind but just trying to kick around ideas.

If it were me I would look at a cooper rifle. I think that a rifle like that could be passed down generation to generation and be appreciated.

A nice factory engraved pistol always holds its value well, http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...57957_757780_757751_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y .

Or one of the Beretta O/U's, maybe a 687 Silver Pigeon II (or a III for $500 more), or the 687 Ultralight Deluxe.

Or if you don't mind a semi auto shotgun the Benelli Montefeltro Silver is a superb gun, light, nicely engraved, very decent wood, and you could just about get a pair in 20 and 12 ga.

If it were me I would probably spend it on a Winchester.
Actually, I know I would spend it on a Winchester. No question about it.

If it were me, I'd get a tricked out M1A and some ammo
or
A tricked out Smith & Wesson 686 from the custom shop and a lot of ammo
or
A nice Colt Python and a lot of ammo
or
A decent .22 and a metric ton of ammo.

I'll name 2: A "daily driver" and a "Sunday cruiser"

Daily Driver
Savage 10BA 308Win with a Leupold Mark AR scope

Sunday Cruiser
50BMG like a Bohica or Serbu, maybe a Barrett 99

I bought the premier semi auto handgun for myself on my 60th birthday: a Sig P210 9mm, regarded to be the best production semi-auto ever made. Mine is a 1952, made the same year I was born, and in mint condition. About $3000. Let me tell you, it is finely crafted, and as accurate as anything I already own. A nice piece of machinery. You could do worse than to buy one. Or, a custom Shiloh Sharps, like the Quigley gun, but that might take 4-5 years to get.
