Specifically looking for a cheap source for media that will pour out of 223 brass.
I buy corn cob media in big bags sold as pet bedding, it's great for other calibers but it will not hardly come out of 223 brass once it's in there and I can't find any walnut shell bedding or media anywhere. Thanks.........

Without a doubt, DrillSpot. I suggest 20/40, no media clogging anywhere as Walkalong states. They will nor ship a 40 lb. bag right to your door for slightly less than $35.00.

The walnut you are looking for can be found at Petsmart or most local pet stores. It's called Zilla Lizard litter and it is very fine gournd up walnut, I use it in a 50/50 mix of fine corn cobb and walnut for my tumbler.

Works extreemly well

Check your phone book for companies that sell various types of media for industrial applications. I found a company locally that sells 50# bags of various sizes/types of products for much less than I would pay through the net. The nice part is being able to pick-up locally and not have to wait days with a chance of damage in transit.

I use the 20/40 corn cob grit from Drillspot & have just stopped using anything else. I do have some ground walnut I used to use for cleaning range brass, but the corncob does just about as well, and since I paid $21 for 40 lbs shipped, it's just too cheap to look elsewhere. I'm not OCD enough in my dotage to do the 2 step process of walnut, then corncob to make it like new - the corncob will make it very clean & that's good enough. Drillspot will put it on sale from time to time and if you just check their website weekly or so, you'll eventually score. They get it from Grainger, and the two bags I have bought were drop shipped from Grainger which wants like $36 plus shipping.
Drillspot's current price is $35, shipped ( http://www.drillspot.com/products/521055/econoline_526040g-40_40_lbs_blast_media ). That's still pretty cheap...:scrutiny:

My recent Drillspot shipment of 14/20 was drop shipped from Grainger in SC in--no kidding--30 hours. This stuff works really well with about a tsp of Nu-finish. Nothing I've used works this well for any price.

+1 for drilspot 20/40 media. I gave it a shot and was very impressed. It makes my "clean brass" look steps ahead cleaner and brighter. Loader friends comment on how I get my brass that clean and shinny. It is so small, sand size, that it pours out the primer hole of small rifles. At less than a dollar a pound I can't ask for anything more. It's all I use now. Add some neufinish every once in a while and 5 hours later you have " new looking brass".

I compost my media when it gets too dirty. Great to use in the garden in the fall when you turn it under.

Nothing like tracking lead compounds through your house.
Probably no worse than the cat tracking nasty litter down the hardwood floor in the hall (HATE that :cuss:)...

Well I got a tumbler loaded with fresh cat litter to see how it works. Will find out shortly.

Will add already tho its not cost effective, price of cat litter is cheap for sure, but then its much, much heavier, so the cost per quanity "not per lb." is much more.

Hope thats not for your vegi garden.

And folks wonder why or how their lead levels get high.

Yep i buy 50lb bags of cat litter. When it gets dirty, then use it for grit in winter or absorbent for spills in garage or shop.

Have no idea what type of cat litter you use but the Tidy cat dustless and clumping that we use is a joke to say the least. Not only was it dusty, it didn't clean the brass let alone shine it, came out like it was sand plasted and still dirty. At least I experimented with it. Back to the corn cob 20/40 grit. Also cheaper per tumbler full.

If you have cats, do you find them trying to expel body wastes on your cleaned cases?
