Lee Deluxe Rifle Die decapping question

Yes, without a doubt the Lee Neck Sizing die does have a decapper just like the full length die does. I'm looking at a few right now...

The die on the left is the full size resizing die and the one on the right is the Collet Neck die. You will see both have a decapping pin out of the bottom.

The two die sets are, the Pacesetter with the Full Length Resizing die, Bullet Seating die and the Factory Crimp die. The Lee Deluxe Die Set with the Full Length Resizing die, Bullet Seating die and the Collet die (instead of the Factory Crimping die). Both come with the Shell Holder and the powder dipper. The Collet die will decap your cases as does the Full Length Resizing die but does not resize the sides of the case, only the neck. Often it is refered to as the neck sizing die, it is used for once fired cases to size the neck only as well as decap the primer out of the pocket. When you fire form (shoot) the case in your rifle and neck size only, the case should fit snuggly back into your rifle but you will need to bump the shoulder of the case (have your die set properly). Not all cases are made of the same brass (material) and this may not work (fit into your chamber) that is why the Full Length Resizing die is included in the die set.

Be advised that the deluxe set with the neck sizer DOES NOT include a die that will crimp. This might not be an issue with .308 but with a tube-fed rifle I needed to buy an FCD to crimp my 30-30 reloads.

Also, the neck sizer is cool but you really gotta muscle it, much more than with the FL sizer IMHO.

yep, I didn't read the die descriptions close enough before ordering and had to make a follow up order for the FCD. Oh well...

I would like to try the collet die, but everything I've read so far says to not use this die for the AR.

It is for your bolt rifle. The sizing is very easy & I only FL size new to me brass. I have never had to bump a shoulder back.

Wait wait wait. This is once fired brass but NOT from your rifle? If this is true, forget about neck sizing on this round, you need to FL size these the first time. I'd hate to see you neck size these and after you've loaded them they won't chamber.

I may be misunderstanding here, Deadflies, but the bullet seater dies WILL crimp your rounds, and the instructions explain how to adjust the die for that crimp. I don;t use it, opting instead for the FCD, but the others do crimp.

Yes, this is true.

No it isn't true. Unless Lee has changed there sets the saying die will NOT crimp.

There is no need to crimp tho.

My Deluxe Rifle Die set includes a Dead Length Bullet Seating Die. It is the only bullet seating die in the set and it says in the instructions:

"This die will not crimp the bullet in place"

But I just got mine new a few months ago, so maybe this is something new from Lee.

The dead-length seater die comes with the Collet Die set. It doesn't crimp. Unless you're reloading for a tube-fed rifle, you dont' need to crimp anyhow. I load thousands of rounds for ARs and don't crimp any of them.

I use the dead-length seater for seating .223s for my ARs.
