No primers in town!

Hit the Pensacola or Tallahassee gun shows. There was no shortage of primers at the Tampa show last weekend.

Got this little gun store that's about 100 miles (round trip) that had a box of Fed. match SP primers for $34 and standard Winchester SP at $38 p/1K.

Holly crap! I'm still buying WSP primers for $29.00/k at my LGS. It will catch up with us here in my area in NC soon enough I suppose. Makes me glad I keep between 10k and 15k of primers here at all times.

You may want to try Powder Valley or Natchez, buy in bulk from Powder Valley with powder to offset the hazardous freight charge before you can't get any at all. Powder Valley will ship powder and primers together in same package. That really helps.

Primers are still readily available but when I picked up a box of LRP last week the only type of primer not fully stocked was small pistol. They did have a few boxes, I bought one. 27.99 for cci.

I just picked up two cases of each for just under $26.00 a thousand. That is a per case price not a package deal. I felt good about those prices. I had to drive about 20 miles to pick it up, well worth the trip. This is in central Kansas and no it is not Powder Valley which is about 100 miles away.

Drive up to Perry Ga, the Sports Center has lots of Federal Small Pistol Match. Shelf was bare of any others mind you. No one locally seems to have .40 bullets though. Fortunately no hazmat fee on bullets !

If your car is like most it will cost you at least 4 gallons of gas or more to make that 100 mile round trip. That means the gas will cost you ~$16. Add the fact you pay tax on the purchase you will probably be close to covering the Hazmat fee if you decide to buy from Powder Valley as long as you order enough. Maybe you can get a group buy together with a few reloaders in your area since you are all in the same no primer available boat.

Actually you will probably cover the Hazmat fee with the lower prices for primers on the PV site. Locally you said they cost $34 and PV has the same Federal primers for only $26. @ a savings of $8/1000 you will cover the Hazmat fee with a purchase of only 3000 primers.

prices here in ohio haven't changed, $30/k cci/win spp at the funshow. I gave up on the local funshow for reloading supplies after someone i see frequently at the range sent me to a hole in the wall gun store with tons of reloading supplies. they have cci spp for $35 and srp for $32. ive been using the small rifle primers for pistol for a while.

here soon when santa brings a few bucks my way, im ordering a boatload off of powder valley. Gonna try to have my needs covered for the year.

Yeah just plan ahead and buy some primers and propellant at the same time. I will beat the haz-mat/shipping cost when buying at least 3K primers and 2 LBS propellant per order and they are delivered to my door. Usually I will order $500-$900 worth at a time (3 times a year) and that REALLY negates the costs associated with shipping haz-mat. Local costs are 1/2 again higher or more than on line for any reloading supplies these days so I do not feel that the various LGS really want to sell me anything anyway or they would be more competitive. It has been this way for years sadly. When there was a shortage of primers before they were going for $70 per K locally at their highest pricing. I was happy I could sit it out that time.

I always try to support local merchants unless they are really higher, but 50% is overly high IMHO. Note that the Tula SPP at Powder Valley were $19.60 per K and available when I checked today. Is it worth the haz-mat for these??

I don't have an opinion about Tula/Wolf pistol primers but Russian Large rifle primers outshine Winchesters by a wide margin in my experience based on chronograph and ladder testing.

Everyone talking about primer issues. I've never had any issue getting primers here locally in Arkansas. If I had to, there's a Cabelas just a couple hours from here

I live in a really small GA town near the FL border. I never have any trouble getting all the primers I want at a good price from Powder Valley and Widener's. Just received 10k small rifle primers from Widener's @ $14 per k, plus hazmat. Also bought 8# of powder to help dilute the hazmat charge.

I use small rifle primers, exclusively, for 9mm and .223 reloading.

I dont know about my local area, because 4yrs ago, i bought 75k before current administration occupied 1600 PA. Im still good for a long while yet.

Received 5K SPP and 4# jug of 231 from Powder Valley yesterday. Even with hazmat fee I beat gun show prices.

A couple of friends and I have been getting together to do larger orders and splitting the shipping. Now fully stocked on on SP, LP, SR and shotgun primers. Find a couple of people, then look around for the best mail order price and buy, buy, buy...

Luckily, my LGS's sell most primers for $30/k so it's been easy to just by a box every couple of weeks whether I needed them or not. That certainly helps when there are temporary primer shortages.

It would be helpful to prove to yourself that SPM and SR primers work just fine when SPP's are not available. LPM's also work fine in 45ACP. For me with mid range loads, they don't make a bit of difference so I am not picky when certain primers are not available. Work up your own loads and if you feel there is a difference, you will have all the load data you need when doing the substitution.

When/if I'm faced with paying $30 per k for primers, I'll have to reconsider whether I want to reload.

I know. Paying $70 for a box of twenty not too common rifle rounds will make your decision even more smart. Why not just stop now?

Please share where.......I need to get a case or two

Recently bought 10K of primers from Powder Valley. Delivered price was $302.80. Right to my front porch. Local price would have been $541.25 plus gasoline to go get them.
A nice thing about PV is that their price is per 1K. To even out my supply I bought 7K of CCI LP and 3K of SP.

No problem buying Winchester large pistol primers at the Phoenix, AZ gun show last week, and at a good price; but small pistol primers were not to be had - so I doubled up on my lpp purchase.
