New GP100!

I bought a new 6" Ruger GP100 stainless last Saturday. Beautiful,and accurate gun. I went to a gun show looking for a S&W 686,but ended up with the Ruger $200 cheaper. I'm happy with my choice. What are some opinions on the GP100?

To shoot it. A lot. Your option then is to shoot .38s instead of .357s. After getting some lead downrange, think about grips, sights, action work, etc. Just my $0.02.

What are some opinions on the GP100?

Rock solid reliable beast of a gun. Can handle any loads that are within SAAMI spec and never really have to worry about wearing it out with honest wear.

The GP's love being shot like most other Ruger revolvers. Once your trigger finger gets used to the trigger pull your D/A accuracy will really improve. Nice choice for a blaster!

Field strip, clean & deburr, lube, then dry fire a bit to smooth her out. DON'T use the hammer strut as a takedown tool as per the manual.

Otherwise, shoot the snot out of it.

+1. That is the only modification I made to mine and I shoot the heck out of it and mostly in DA mode. (don't use the lightest hammer spring in the Wolf kit or you will likely get misfires.

I thought I was going to buy a S&W too, but ended up buying a 4" GP100.
Opinion? They're great! I'm really impressed with the smooth double action.

I had the same gun with the wood grip panels. It would shoot poker chips at 30 yards. I hate to say it but maybe more accurate than a colt or a smith but the trigger pull was a little rough. I have been itchin to replace it, just waiting for the right deal

I changed the springs in mine. It makes a huge difference! What a sweet trigger!

The front sight is really easy to change, I installed a fiberoptic front sight on mine. I like it a lot.

I have the 4" version. It was my first revolver and it is one of my favorite guns. It is not as refined as some of my older Smiths, but the Ruger is my workhorse. It shoots loads that my Smiths can't shoot. Because of that the Ruger is my dedicated woods/camping gun.

I own the same model. My advice, buy lots of ammo, or better yet, work up your own 357 mag loads. Personally, I think that gun with the Hogue grips is really easy to shoot with full magnum loads, so that's all I do. Mine makes 158 grain bullets fly better than 110's. If I want low-noise or low-recoil, I use my 22 or 9 mm.

Oh, and it's hell on white tail deer, too.

The GP that I own is reliable and I don't regret buying it. I'd rather have the S&W 686.

As much as I love my S&W six shooters, after replacing the springs and sights on my GP100, it shoots every bit as well as anything I own. Well, maybe not everything, but close. The Ruger is a keeper.

I had a early model 3" GP100, Fixed sights & a dream to carry, As a dimwit I sold it..

One of two Ive ever regret selling. I have & will always keep my Security Six from my fathers retired duty revoler 151 prefix=1975 ; ) PS Your GP 6" is a great gun for 3 lifetimes

Mine has the factory Hogue's,and they are great. I started mid-range with my loads: 15.2gr H4227,Win. brass, Win. spm primers. Very accurate,but with fairly mild recoil. You can still tell it's a 357!

I have the 6" .357 mag, and at 75 feet can keep all six shots in a 3" circle, DA. The gun is amazing.

My 3" GP is one of the few handguns I keep loaded inside my house. I very much like the 3" barrel length.

Suggestion: Don't let your cats wizz on it... it will rust.

That happened to me and I was so bugged.
