What states and/or cities would you not sell/ship to?

I'm in the process of building a website related to guns. Mostly its to get the web design/programming experience but I plan to sell some gun accessories and parts on the website as well.

What states and/or cities would you not deal with/sell to?

I'm not planning on selling anything requiring an FFL.
 
Why wouldn't you want to support a pro-gun individual who is trying to support the industry? Unless you are denying orders to the local law enforcement, the only people you will be sticking it to are gun owners and supporters who already have to deal with living in an anti-gun environment....Anti's will be happy as hell that you won't sell stuff to local pro-2a people....they more than likely weren't going to shop with you anyways, and they WANT pro-gun people to not have access to what you sell.

If you're talking about selling your guns on Gunbroker and explicitly stating that you will not sell to certain States, I would say... CA, MA, MD, Cook County, IL, NY, NJ. For hi cap mags & stuff like that, I'd still stick to the list...
 
Why would you restrict your revenue stream at all?
I'm in sales to high net worth clients. I make it a specific point to never talk politics, etc. With clients.
If someone is willing pay me for the service I provide, it would be a poor business model to only take payment if I support their political view.

Is the purpose of the website to make money, or promote your personal ideology?
If it's to make money, don't restrict your audience.

Of course , know your sales tax laws.

Liability. Some states, such as NY, prohibit things like post-ban "high capacity" mags. While I've never heard of the NY state prosecuting someone not in NY for shipping a prohibited item to a buyer in NY, that doesn't mean it will never happen.

While we don't discriminate based on city/state, we won't deal with agencies, such as DC PD, whose leaders have actively pushed for more gun control.
 
Its not a political concern. I haven't started this venture yet. I've seen the ads that state explicitly certain places to which they won't ship. How do they come up with this "list" and keep it current?

they don't keep it current. that is why it is so general. there are no ammo restrictions in 95% of CA but some companies refuse to ship anywhere. If you will find the time to understand the laws, you will open yourself up to a lot of business.
 
There are a few restrictions to be aware of but you need to research the latest laws. For example, you cannot sell to anyone in IL without a FOID card. You'd need to get a copy of the Foid card and a govt issued ID that matches and the address you ship to also has to match the ID and card. In NYS, you can only buy ammo for a handgun if you have a NYS pistol permit. Many states, cities and counties have restrictions on magazine capacity like MA, CA and Cook County, IL. These are just a few examples but you can see, there are more than a few restrictions to consider. If you go to a national seller's website you can see their restrictions. Sites like Sportsman's Guide, etc. To keep it simple, some companies just don't do business with any restricted states but you will find that people from the restricted areas will do business with companies that work with them (legally) instead of just refusing to do business with them.

However, if you don't live in Illinois and you don't require proof of a FOID card, there isn't anybody with any authority to do anything about it.
