While I normally do not care for anything that comes from O'Reilly's mouth, I was glad to hear him talk positively about concealed carry. I know his stands on certain other firearms is way different, but oh well , everyone has the right to believe what they want.

Who really still watches that guy anyway?

What I find interesting is that there are alot of people who are always criticizing O'Reilly yet continue to watch his show.

Must be something about him.

The problem with O'reilly is that he like many people have not figured out that you can not win an argument with some one who does not know the difference between fact and emotions. When someone bases their argument on emotion you cannot win, no matter what. At that point they are no longer able to be educated.

Bob Costas sounds like an idiot. Jason Whitlock's comments were even worse. There is a good possibility that Bob has never shot a gun in his life.

Lots of people, including me. He is off the mark about some aspects of gun ownership, but dead-on with others.

Costas is a Hoplophobe who has no business spouting off about something he obviously knows nothing about.

I gave up on him quite some time ago. O'Reilly's constantly overbearing demeanor was the cause.

After he "ran down" Rep. J. Chaffetz so disrespectfully a few short months ago, even when it would've become clear to most that his (O'Reilly's) position was ill-informed at best, it became clear that his only goal is make himself seem to be an authority on everything at his guest's expense.

I haven't watched his program in years, until it was posted about Bob Costas. I try my best to avoid Fox and CNN. I am glad however I watched the video berettaprofessor posted.

Jason Whitlock's comments were even worse.

Not really a debate when they both are arguing the same side...

I gave up on him several years ago when I watched him repeatedly run out of things to blather about and start controversy where there previously was none to be able to blather further.

I do stop to watch if I see Dennis Miller on. They are together in SLC Saturday night, but it's my grandmother's 90th birthday party, so I won't be going. Yeah, O'Reilly isn't a friend to gun owners.

O'Reilly is not currently a friend of gun owners, however, he is a smart and thinking person. So, it is quite possible that as time goes on and he learns more from areas of the country that are not anti-gun (like DC and NY), he may change his attitude.

Bill O'Reilly an idiot? His life tips have really improved my life! I now know what products to buy, what movies to see, and what obscure words to use in conversation that will make me look like a total arse!

I quit watching Billo about 5 years ago. I ended up filling the big empty void in my life with.....oh wait there was no void.

Yeah, good ol Bill isn't as smart as he thinks he is. I saw him get dominated by Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson), who is, regardless of whether you agree with him or his methods, a very smart man.

While I disagree with Bill on many things and do agree with him on others for being an idiot as some claim here he sure is a successful pundit.

His take on Christmas is right on.

He also claimed to be giving his 6 yr old son a vintage 6 shooter cap gun for Christmas this year.

I'd like to see costas debate guns with Ted Nugent.

But I think it might have been more effective if I said, look, if we're looking for perspective on this, we're going to have to have a serious discussion within sports, an ongoing discussion, not five minutes of -- of faux tears about it, but a serious discussion about domestic violence, about the culture of the game itself, about the easy access to guns, about steroid drugs and alcohol. And in the future, we will soon do that. I think that would have been more effective --

Interview had its moments. Both guys playing to their crowds. Clearly shows the division in the nation on this topic. Some for, some against. At least Costas brought up the domestic violence topic albeit briefly.

I watched part of O'Reilly last nigh. Missed the Costas segment. I like Bill O'Reilly. BUT... he always wants to be seen as the ultimate authority on a subject. He's good. He's well informed. He's opinionated. But he doesn't know everything nor does his staff that likely helps him prepare for the show.

His use of the term "heavy weapons" has troubled me a lot. AK's and AR's are not heavy weapons, they are small arms. At some point, I hope he gets better educated, but he does not like to back down from what he says because he is the news god.

So: Costas forwards the following stances in the segment:

-more comprehensive and effective controls on the sale of guns

-roughly 40% of guns purchased in this country do not require background checks (implying a serious problem)

-harsher penalties for criminals (without noting the abysmal dismissal of existing penalties)

-training program for those who purchase guns... (a potential point of examination allowing another level of exclusion in ownership)

Then Billo goes on in his usual fashion to concede points to opposing guests either directly or through omission of argument as a fast track to get on to a pre-determined "talking point"/sound bite on his part.

In this case he enlightens us as to his position on Costas' previous statements with this:

"...all those are reasonable positions..."

and

"You know what? I agree with most of that"

Including much of what I have not added like Costas' referring to military artillery and the like.


I can't believe I watched over 9 minutes of Bile-O in order to get a greater clarification on Costas' POV.

Dunning-Kruger effect?

Bill wants a firearm to defend himself in a dark movie house under Aurora-esque circumstances. Bob does not. And both say innocent civilians in that situation should not have access to the same firepower available to bad guys, law enforcement or the military. Bill is evidently content with a single-shot derringer to confront a semi auto rifle, shotgun and pistol, with triple digit ammo at hand. I'd like innocents to be able to fight fire with fire, in the last resort.
