Picked up an AK-47 Norinco with traditional furniture and a spike bayonet. The wood furniture is new, the metal is 99%. It came with a sling and one 20 round Chinese magazine. 7.62 X 39.
But...guns are like running shoes. You never know what you got until you use them a bit.
Had a Romanian SAR. It was OK, mostly reliable. (to some that means it was not reliable) Also had a Romanian WASR 10 w/bayonet and the works. It was much less reliable and had a tinny sound when it cycled, though it was more accurate than the SAR. It was also quite the looker.
And so now this one - looks just like a type 56 but it is not. In fact it is a modified MAK 90. But the seller did an EXCELLENT job on it. Says it has had 0nly 2 - 3 hundred rounds through it. Looks like it to me.
BTW, the seller said he could recommend Wolfe ammo. I have been away from shooting these for so long (10 years - yeah, I'm old) that I don't know all of what is out there. Any comments along this line are appreciated.
And, as it comes as no surprise to most of you, available AK's of all ilks seem to be much more scarce in the public market. Lots of Romanians are being sold at ever revolving higher prices. My SAR, now with a friend cost me $300. The WASR a little over $400.
I have to admit, for the history, the functionality, and YES -the looks, the AK is far and away my favorite rifle. Too bad Nancy doesn't like them.
If anybody cares I'll issue a report after my first range trip with it. Depends how cold it is here in NEPA so it might be a while.
Thanks for reading.
I'd LOVE to hear about your AK!
