I picked up a pretty cool Webley Mark VI today and I'm pretty excited about it! I just think they are really cool looking, it's one of those guns that's ugly but has real style and character.

This particular one is a re-work chambered in 45ACP and the cylinder has been modified to function with moon clips. There may not be much in the way of collectors value left in this gun but I bought it as a shooter not as a collectors piece.Should be tons of fun to shoot and the price was right as well at just $350!

Sucks that it was converted, but for $350 I would buy it. Nice gun.

I suggest loading down .45 ACP for that gun; the pressure level of the .45 ACP at 21k is over half again that of the .455 Webley design pressure (12k). Some of those guns have had their cylinders burst firing .45 ACP.

I load 45 (AR) and would have grabbed that piece with little thought. Very nice looking.
Now to find an IWB holster for it.

Nice find and even with it being converted it still looks to be in fine condition. I believe with the Webley Patents marking along with the W&S mark next to it makes this particular revolver a commercial one.

What he said.^^^ I have been kicking around the idea of buying one of those, but maybe in a 38. Great buy, Congrats.

+1 on the advice to use downloaded rounds _only_. There were some sad photos of blown-up Weblies posted here earlier.

What JimK suggested. Handload for your Webley and load the cartridges for lesser pressure.

Standard pressure .45 ACP loads are essentially the proof loads for the Webley. You have to get 230 grain FMJ and LRN loads down to at least 650 fps to be safe. The one guy I know who keeps a couple of these for grins and giggles won't run them hotter than 600 fps and he's had them for decades as he tells it. That said it's a slick shooter up to twelve yards. Enjoy.

Actually, .45 ACP is more than a proof load. I earlier said the .455 ran about 14,000 psi, but I checked and it is less. .455 ammo had a maximum chamber pressure of 4.9 tons per square inch (a long ton of 2200 lbs), so the ammo was not expected to produce pressures greater than 2200 x 4.9 or 10700 psi. The guns were proved at about 16000 psi. The .45 ACP standard load is 21,000 psi, or twice the normal pressure for the Webley revolvers.

There is little doubt that those revolvers will stand up to more than the specified ammunition pressures, but the question has to be how much more?

That revolver does look like a commercial model. The Webley markings would appear on the military guns, but there would also be the military proof marks and the broad arrow. If these are not present, it was a commercial revolver.

Ugh. I've wanted one of these since watching Zulu Dawn at an impressionable age.
...but you'll need the hat too.

Hate to rain on the parade here, but the Webley wasn't issued until AFTER the battle of Rorke's Drift.

I have one and like it. Cool to shoot, and a legitimate self-defense round. The Webley .38, not so much.
