Where can I find 7.62x25 "surplus" ammo? I really enjoy shooting my Polish Tokarev, but my stash is running low.

I looked at Gunbroker but, hmm.....are there any places still selling it?

I'm still kicking myself for not stocking up when it was cheap and available.

I finally bought a Tokarev in 7.62x25 THEN went to buy ammo. I was able to get a little surplus but as you know prices aren't what they used to be. I've decided to start getting commercial (prob. PRVI) when I see a decent price. Reloading dies are on my list so I can start rolling my own.

I bought a case last year from J&G to shoot in a CZ 52. I handload for my Mauser Brooms the handloads are much better than the Milsurp.

I payed 175$ for a 800rnd spam can of the stuff some months back. Nasty, pin-crimped, inconsistent stuff, but it lasted me until I scored a 9mm conversion barrel. I'll be reloading Tok once the last of it's gone, since I do like the round.

I really wish Putin would order his troops re-equiped with the stuff so factories would start making guns/ammo again.

I do not think anyone is going to use this caliber on large scale, but perhaps some ammo can come from Estonia. Estonians no longer need the ammo. To see why this is so please see '.45ACP outside the US' post. Warning the pics are very graphic so only very strong of heart and mind should see them! While I do not care for Soviet era "steel" what they did to 500 Colt 1911A1s is truly heartbreaking.:(

Last time I got it it was www.southernohiogun.com. I've got a full can (I think it's 800+ rounds) and some loose stuff left but no gun. I guess I need to find another TT. This was Polish ammo, lots of cracked cases after firing and the burnt powder didn't smell the best. Oh well it was cheap at the time

why, were they sold as non magnetic?
the ammo is most likely mild steel core, or if not, Tombac, is metal coating that includes iron, and was widely used by the communists as the gliding metal.

I have a couple of cans of Romanian surplus set back "Just In case".
I don't shoot my Romanian Tokarev all that often anymore and usually just buy a box of Privi Partisan to bang away with.'
The surplus is all corrosive and it is nice to shoot the non corrosive Privi stuff & not worry about rushing home to clean the gun as soon as possible. Yes I am getting fat and lazy in my old age.
I also save that reloadable brass and have stocked up a set of dies and some bullets for when the day comes I will have to reload.

Finally shot some of the surplus ammo.

Seemed fairly hot, but no chrono.

Pretty sparky threw glow balls 3 or 4 feet.

And the best thing? It's very accurate and repeatable. I was surprised - it's more accurate than S&B.

I've been impressed with all the military surplus 7.62x25 ammunition I've used so far (Yugoslavian, Romanian and Polish). I'm just thankful I purchased what I needed to keep both my M57s fed when ammo was cheap.

The modern stuff by PPU is probably what I'll use when my surplus is gone. From the little I've used, it seems absolutely fine, as is S&B.

Why would the surplus stuff be so much more accurate than both PPU and S&B?

It's NOT....The (82) Romanian I have is mostly crap. At least 30% is out of spec (OAL) and nowhere near the quality of S&B or PPU......but it was cheap when I bought it. No way I'd pay today's prices for the QC deficient, corrosive surplus!

This (54) Polish stuff is great. OAL is fine and there is no discernible dimensional difference with it and the S&B or PPU (Wolf Gold Box) using my caliper and micrometer. I shoot handguns enough to detect the difference in ammo accuracy in pistols I'm used to. I use ten yards as my standard for comparison. I wish I had kept my targets, my mistake.

In fact, here's how drastic it is: I just didn't think this gun (Polish Tok) was all that accurate. I figured the barrel was the issue after I got used to the primitive sights. The only ammo I had been using was the S&B or PPU. Then I loaded up four mags of the surplus ammo and it tight group after tight group under 1" at 10 yards. Fill up two mags with S&B and groups spread right back out to 2.5-3". This could be coincidence - maybe I should have my buddy hand me mags "blind".
