Old Army Sight Replacement

Trying to adjust my sights for use with 240 grn bullets and there just isn't enough adjustment available, which I've heard anyway.

Looking at Blackhawk front sight to swap with, the ones I see that I think are the ones I'd need don't seem to have the pin hole. Does this need to be machined in or am I looking at the wrong one?
 
If your Old Army has a pinned front sight just call Ruger and ask them for the taller one. They will gladly send it to you for a slight fee.
 
I have an Amazon order ready and figured I could throw it in there with the free shipping and 10% off discount. But it doesn't seem to have the hole for the pin. Only asking $28 for it before...
 
Aiming low for now isn't a big deal. Still not adequate groups for hunting with anyway, and haven't actually begun a real load development. I can wait.
Still interested though, as I'd rather buy a punch and sight vs paying that much and some for a smith to do it. Not like that can be that hard...

No they won't. They are not available any longer. They sent me one that was still available in stock and it was for a Super Blackhawk .. completely different design.
I made one out of 1/8" flat stock and used the original as a template but left it much taller. A 1/16" drill bit will drill the proper-sized hole for the pin.
 
For whatever perverse Ruger-reason, the stainless OAs have pinned front sights, and blued ones do not. I'd love to raise the front sight on my blued model so I can run full-power slug loads, but my current groups with 200gr Buffalo Bullets hit about a foot high at 25 yards. I'm not inclined to file on the rear sight, so I will make do with round balls until further notice.
 
I do not have a drill press and would be concerned that the hole wouldn't be straight.
Grrr! Means I'd need a smith...

I used the pin hole on the barrel for a guide and drilled through with a slightly smaller bit then removed it and enlarged it.. I used a small c clamp to hold it in place. The rear blades are cheap, the shipping will kill you, if you don't order other items with it. I have a spare and one that I filed at the range til it zeroed at 25'. Both methods produce equal results.:):evil:
