GSG 5 .22LR durability?

They're well reputed enough and pass my hands-on inspection. Don't know why I haven't bought one yet. Now that I have a SIG 522 ordered, maybe I'll get the GSG next.

I have had a GSG 1911 .22 for 2 years. I changed out the main spring bushing and guide rod for the cutom one on the web. The GSG 1911 is a damn fine .22 Plinker. GSG also makes the SIG 1911 .22 it cost a few bucks more. The Colt 1911 produced by a Walther Div. that makes air guns and Blank pistols. The Colt 1911 .22 was made from a blank firing 9MM Non-Gun for Euro sales. That maybe why you have confused GSG 1911 s with air guns, Not.

Oh yes forgot. Don't buy any Remington Bulk for the GSG 1911. The GSG just loves the Federal Bulk. Do you have a Murdocks Ranch Supply over there? They have the best price on Federals here in Wyoming. The SIG Mags. fit the GSG as well. I bought 3 extra Mags for mine at the LSG. Most 1911 .45 add ons will fit the GSG. I put a Wilson Mag well on mine. I shoot 1911 Pistols mostly so my Holsters all fit the GSG. I was able to shoot mine in a centerfire combat match just for fun. The other shooters wanted to shoot the GSG all afternoon.

I've never seen any GSG (I've seen the same 3 on numerous occasions) last more than 2 magazines without a failure.

Were they using bad ammo? (Remington Thunderbolt/Golden Bullet)

Almost any .22lr Semi Auto can run CCI Mini Mags though, that's the real test.

Also, I give every .22lr semi-auto a break in period with good ammo. Were these guns broken in?

My guess? Ammo it didn't like and a dirty rifle/mags. The guns should be fully broken-in by now, but they usually just have a random bulk box, so I doubt any of the owners took the time to find ammo it likes. I agree with you on using CCI ammo, though. It and Federal Automatch are all I use now, and I haven't had an ammo-related malfunction in a few thousand rounds. Let us know how it does for you!

Actually the Colt 1911 rimfire has no interchangeable parts with Umarex blank guns. The method of operation is somewhat similar but with the exception of rigid barrel mount and build materials, the Colt is pretty much completely centerfire 1911-compatible.

As far as GSG5 is concerned, mine has worked flawlessly. Trigger is horrible, but with some minor drilling, tapping and polishing it can be improved considerably. Accuracy is decent, one inch five shot groups at 50 yards are no problem with iron sights and overall build quality is good. It feels a bit plasticky, less substantial than a 9mm MP5, but not bad at all. Recommended? Maybe, if you're looking for a high cap plinker with tacticool cosmetics. I still prefer Armi Jäger AP84 (or AP80) to it, mostly because of better accuracy, better trigger and Galil looks, but they're quite rare and spare magazines are almost impossible to find.

I got the GSG5 as a gift, for helping out a local gunsmith, so in the real sense of the word I didn't buy it. Given a choice I probably would've bought a rimfire AR upper or even S&W 15-22 instead, but that's just me.

I never knew that Remington .22 ammo was garbage until I read it on the internet. I burn a good 20,000rds or more a year of the stuff and have nary a problem. Every rimfire is a law unto itself, you have to find what it likes.

I purchased a GSG522 (MP5 copy) a couple of years ago and it holds up just fine. Quality seems to be good, and as long as I use HV rounds it cycles just fine. I think the only person that has had an issue with it was my brother-in-law being too careful how he releases the charging handle. He would release it to slow and it seemed to not want to feed correctly when he did that. So I told him to quite babying it and release it like a man or how you see them do it in the movies and it worked fine for him after that. (But mabye it is just that gun I do not know.)

As for the Remington .22 ammo.... IMO it is garbage I have always had bad luck with it in almost every .22 gun I own. (I apologies in advance to the Remington faithful but:

hg research the history of the Umerex 1911 Colt .22. Its parents were stirile.

A bit off topic for this thread, but http://ezine.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=86 explains Umarex-Colt's bloodline. It's a completely different gun than the 9mm PAK blank gun.

I bought mine for IDPA/IPSC practice and suppressed plinking; I threw in a trigger, hammer, sear, hammer spring, mainspring and grips from my spare parts box to get 1:1 the same trigger pull and grip/trigger feel as my centerfire race guns and so far I've put a few thousands of rounds through it. Technical details aside, close enough, 1911-compatible where it matters, and it just works. I haven't tried GSG 1911 myself but then again, I probably don't have a need for another rimfire 1911 in the foreseeable future.

GSG-5 is good as long as you swap the screws for the RRages ones. Stock screws are stupid cheap and loosen up after a couple of mags. They can cause all sorts of problems including stovepipes, cracks in the bolt, a lot of different stuff.

Had a GSG AK. Required cleaning after every 4 magazines or so. Then it fed with no problem. To clean it right you have remove the butts stock. I didn't like that. I just ran a bore snake through it and wiped the breach area. It worked.

My honest opinion is that I would NOT recommend a GSG purchase based on my experience.

I run golden bulletts through mine and it's fine.

Gsg 5 22lr

My Son & I both shoot a GSG 5 22LR and have done so for 2 or 3 years with no problems. We shoot them a lot in the 22 action shoots our gun club puts on. We think they are very well made and are very fast on the steel targets, we both use RED DOT sights and really enjoy them, weshoot the 22LR ammo that says on the box for SEMI AUTO RIFLES. Several different brands and have not had any problems. Both our rifles are very accruate, very well made, and a Hoot To Shoot.

My friend has the ati gsg mp5sd copy. It has held up very well and is more accurate than my 10/22. Trigger is not too great. It's bulky though. And is a little hard to take apart. it is ammo picky. hates the golden bullet, runs the federal fine.

My son and I have GSG 5's we purchased a little after they came out. Between the two of us we have fired thousands of rounds without a problem and my son only cleans his about half as many times as I do. We shoot Fedral bulk box and the GSG just chews then up and spits them out. The gun is a lot of fun to shoot.
