Glock 20 or 29?

I bought a Glock 29 to handle the roles of a carry piece and a woods gun.

I liked its small size, as shown here:



And I like its power, enough for black bears and smaller. Here's some chronograph readings for Underwood ammo from that Glock 29:

180gr XTP : 1263, 1266, 1255, 1253, 1299 : avg 1267 ft/s 640 ft-lb
200gr XTP : 1133, 1120, 1141, 1153, 1170 : avg 1143 ft/s 579 ft-lb
220gr HC : 1075, 1082, 1084, 1104, 1094 : avg 1088 ft/s 577 ft-lb

The factory barrel length difference is only 2.1cm and you can use 15 round magazines in G29 therefore unless you plan to get longer barrel for the G20 buying one makes zero sense. Getting longer barrel for G20 make very little sense as we all know handguns suitable for four legged game really need to be .44Mag or larger.

As long as you're content with the 26 for carry, I say go for the 20. Both are fantastic, but the 20 has greater capacity, more complete grip on the frame (not on the magazine), longer sight radius, and higher muzzle velocity.

And I really do think that you'll then have the best two-gun Glock combination. But before you buy, know that Glock will be releasing the Glock 20 gen 4 next month with better texturing and the dual recoil spring that is supposed to reduce felt recoil. Also, before settling on 10mm, consider the 460 Rowland conversions for the Glock 21/30 that are working very well. If you think you need max damage from an auto, the 460 is better than the 10.

I went with the G29 because I wanted it to do all things. But if I had planned better, I would have gone with a 26 and 20 or 21(rowland) combination. I just can't seem to look any farther than one gun away.

No, we all DON'T know that handguns suitable for four-legged game really need to be .44 Mag or larger. You being facetious, or you really don't know any better?

I purchased both a 20 and 29. The was for concealed carry to and from our deer lease along with a back up in case of a close encounter with one of the many hogs on the place. The 29 proved to be the better choice for me. It conceals easily, concedes no more than 50 FPS in performance and shoots just as softly and accurately as the 20. The 20 was simply too bulky for me to conceal and unnecessarily large for field carry. I feel comfortable with 11 rounds of Hornady 200 grain JHPs on tap, but I always carry 15 round mags for spares. My $.02 worth.

I bought a G29 not to long ago, About a few months ago.
After putting at about 100 rounds thru it, I can tell you that after 40-5 rounds, I do not care to shoot it anymore. It really beats my hands up a bit.

It IS accurate tho. I have no problems with shooting it and all, Just a lot of power in a tiny package. It would be good for concealed carry but I would suggest quite a bit of practice with it to get very comfy with it. I do reload for it and have chronoed the loads. They are more or less on par to what others have told me using 180 Gr FMJ.

I do have one 10 round and one 15 round magazine and they fit just fine in it.
I do recommend getting something to help with the grip when shooting. This is my only complain about it.

Hard to go wrong either way. I went with the G-20 for the same uses. Not as small as the G-29, but it is smaller than a full size revolver with a 3" barrel, and 14 oz lighter.



The G-29 is only 1/2" shorter and not much lighter, but I would have probably been just as happy with either.

This is a joke right. The 10mm with the best 200 gr. loads will equal a 357 mag with a 4" barrel, which would be a considerably larger, heavier gun than a G-20 or G-29. The G-20 in the above photo will shoot 200 gr bullets 150 fps faster than the 3" 629 in the photo will shoot 240 gr bullets. 1300 fps vs 1150 fps, chronographed, and 50 fps faster than my 4" 44 mag (1250 fps)

For a 44 mag to significantly outperform a 10mm it needs a minimum of a 6" barrel. Not many hikers/backpackers are willing to carry that much gun around. From smaller guns with shorter barrels the 10mm holds it's own for woods protection when compared to magnum revolvers with barrels 4" or less. If you want a dedicated hunting handgun, then get a revolver with a 6"+ barrel. Now you will see significant increases in speed, power and accuracy.

I have a lot of respect for the 10mm and the advantage of easier repeatability, but matching ballistics with a legitimate .44 mag load, even a 3", is not going to happen. A .44 mag loaded properly for bear (as best a 44 can) is head and shoulders above what the best handloader for 10mm can do.

That is KOOL. I just bought same revolver with non-magnun J frame chambered for the 9x19 cartridge. It will be easier to carry then the G29 but cylinder only holds five puny 9mm Luger cartridges.

Yup, go with the G21 and get a 6" 10mm conversion barrel from Storm Lake, with threads for your suppressor to be.
