Hey all, just an FYI for those looking for an Iphone app to inventory their ammo using the manufacturer barcode. I'd been looking for awhile for one that would help me add to an inventory or remove from it as I use each box and hadn't found one that worked even halfway decently until now. If you keep ammo in original boxes, an Iphone app called Prep & Pantry works pretty well to scan barcodes. It automatically will add or subtract from your inventory when scanned. add removed items to a "want list", can export to a spreadsheet format, and, best of all, automatically finds about 2/3rd's of the ammo I've tried just when you scan the barcode. The rest you have to enter manually, but once entered, it recognizes that barcode for the next box of that type that you buy or use up.

Please note, I have no connection with the designer/software programmer who owns the app, I'm just a user. The app was originaly designed to keep track of consumables in a pantry/prepper type scenario, but it works pretty well for ammo.

For Android users there are quiet a few apps similar on the Google Play store. Most are simple Inventory apps with barcode support. Haven't tried any yet but most have decent reviews.

I am sure you are not the only one who feels as such. I keep inventory of my firearms and ammunition in a small ledger with no electronic record besides a side picture to show distant friends. Never from paranoid at first just happened that way. Now I see the potential benefits if the need arose. Ledgers can be lost in terrible boating accidents.

Mmmm...my ammo inventory in cyberspace.

Maybe my tin foil hat is a little tight, but I can see not-so-benign intentions behind (or actions resulting from) this app.

You got that right MachIVshooter.

That sounds like one more "Available target" item on a lost/stolen iphone. But I don't really care since I don't have an iphone and my reloads don't have bar codes. :)

It would be amazing if there was a program to print out bar code labels for us reloaders. something we could scan revealing data including date of manufacture, bullet, powder charge, primer and specific notes on the lot number.

There are plenty. I think Avery offers a free software, Avery did have a Design Pro limited version that was a free download. Yeah, found it here. Just get some blank labels and print whatever you want. There is really no limit as to what you can do and setup for your own system. Avery is just one example.

Sounds nifty but I'm with the other fellas when it comes to tin foil hats:) I have found a pen and paper still work for my ammunition log.

The downside of the app is that I can't get an inventory in rounds, just in boxes. I have different size boxes so I have to do the math which isn't the end of the world, but it would be nice to have it done for me. I know that this isn't an ammo specific app so in the food realm you could think of Twinkies. I want to know how many total Twinkies I have, not that I have 4 10 count boxes, 3 20 count boxes, well you get the idea.

While I don't need an application or small software program to track my ammunition use and inventory I don't see where writing such an application that does this would be all that difficult for someone who writes applications. The biggest pain would be likely creating the database.

I also don't see where the average shooter has much use for such an application which might be why there isn't much out there for inventory control on a real small basis.
