Share your "panic" stories

3-hour wait to buy a gun at the LGS around here. ARs and AKs are leaving faster than they can get them in the stores. The lines are long but people seem to be willing to wait all day.

Went to my local Walmart that sells reloading supplies. They had plenty of primers in all sizes so I picked up 500 small rifle and 500 small pistol primers (now have 1000 each of small rifle, large rifle, and small pistol). They were a bit low, I got the next to last pound of Varget. Glanced at the ammo shelves and noticed, not surprisingly, that all their common handgun ammo was gone. Probably .223 and 7.62x39 as well. They did have plenty of .308, though.

Ignored the frenzied panic buying. Stayed home and played with my children. Tumbled some brass. RELAXED.

My LGS is pretty small, usually stocking a a couple dozen rifles. Swung by today to say hi and they only had a couple of .22s left on the rack. Asked the owner and he said they sold out almost immediately and couldn't find anything through their distributors. They still had a decent selection of semi-auto pistols but they had at least 8-10 guys waiting to clear background and another half dozen "shopping.". That's probably what they typically see in a week. I would suspect that they'll be out of hand guns in the next week at the rate they are selling. Interestingly, at least to me, they still had a half dozen or so "tactical" shotguns on the rack. I guess folks aren't concerned about those being effected by any possible restrictive legislation?

Honestly, the only reason I got what I did while I'm in WV is because where I live in MS reloading supplies are sketchy (if you can find them at all).

In afraid to step foot in my LGS for fear of being trampled to death.

I was in town today, so just for the heck of it I stopped in the 3 local gun stores.

A lot of people wanting to buy but the gun racks were empty of AR and AK rifles.

At one store they were still waiting over an hour for a NCIS check.


Last Sat a couple ladies were shooting at my place. One said she wanted to get a AR. I explained the differences, flat top, etc, and told her she had better get one right away. She got one Monday and missed the rush by one day.

Is everything selling or is it just semi-autos and hi-cap mags?

I've been sort of on the hunt for milsurps as of late (no luck in immediate area, but I have some hopes for places up to an hour out from here). Obviously, I don't want to drive for an hour and find squat, and calling has pretty much resulted in immediately getting put on hold.

I'm an FFL so you can imagine that my phone has been ringing way more now than ever. It's insane.

I don't see anything other than the ban-able products selling this fast (AR/AK, high cap magazines, ammo).

Look at G-broker for AR mags. They are selling for $35+ EACH!!!!!!!!

I thought that one of my LGS was out of primers. They weren't. They just didn't have the time to restock them from the back. They were selling mostly AR-related stuff, with a little AK stuff thrown in. They had a mosin I was interested in, but it was a 3 hour wait and my lunch isn't that long.

LGS totally sold out of AK's and AR's, and magazines for both. I got the last 5k small pistol primers they had. Glock mags were nearly out, whole place looked empty.

I live in NYC. My gun lives in PA. I have 50 rounds of cheap bird shot. I have no way to get more. /panic
I know nothing about these crazy AR 'nam guns, but these guys are selling what I think is what everyone is talking about for $13

Except the lancer ones...ah well someone will eventually pay 200 for 5 of them!

Sunday night, I was watching football when Obama broke in with his special report. Got a funny feeling in my stomach that something was about to go down. Monday after work, I was watching the news and starting to see the initial gun control talk from Feinstein et al. Funny feeling in my gut got worse.

Decided at the spur of the moment to go up to the local Academy Sporting Goods store, at about 7:30pm. Just to take a look. When I got there, about 5 or 6 people were waiting on NICS checks, doing paperwork on AR's. There were 5 clerks behind the counter, working their asses off. I asked to see the last AR on the shelf, a Bushmaster patrolman carbine 16" A3. Right then, 3 more people came up asking for ARs. I immediately told the clerk I'd take the bushy.

I have a TX CHL which allows me to skip the NICS check, so I did up the 4473 and was out the door with my new bushy in no time, which sort of ticked off the people waiting. The NICS check was taking almost an hour per person when they could get thru. Meanwhile, probably 3 more new arrivals were asking the clerk about ARs.

I should have grabbed the last 500 rd box of .223 FMJ that they had on the shelf, but I didn't

Took the new bushy home, oiled it up and put it in the safe. Now I see on gunbroker they're bidding them to $1500 and rising.

Insanity.

Yesterday, Wednesday, I went by walmart for some motor oil and strolled past the gun counter. There was a woman on the phone with her husband, looking at a 6920. It was the last Colt they had, they also had an M&P 15 Sport. The husband told her to buy the Colt no matter what. She whipped out the plastic. The clerk told her that although it was marked at $1097, the price had just then gone up in the computer. Price was now $1197. She said "I don't care, I'll take it."

Someone on Gunbroker just paid $515 for FIVE pmags.

From western Louisiana it looked like this, went into Academy Saturday evening and they had probably 4-5 people doing paperwork, not sure exactly what they were buying, at least some were getting semi auto hand guns. Ammo asle was so packed with people that it took me about 5 minutes to grab the couple of things I was after, selection was limited to say the least, enough so that I ended up placing an online order that night to stock up on my expected demands for the next couple of months. Monday went into small chain sporting goods / dollar store (think what Wal-Mart started out as 30+ years ago) there were a couple of people gun shoppping, and they had one model of AR in stock (they never carry many, mostly hunting supplys), I looked at the AR and ended up going back the next day to buy (no price gouging going on there). Did some Comparison shopping at well stocked LGS that tends to carry a good bit of AR and AK's, they had 8 or 9 models of AR's from $799 (used Bushmaster) -$1,499 (SIG)and 1 AK, and 4 or 5 people buying when I was there mid afternoon. Went back yesterday after buying the AR from the sporting good shop, and bought their last 2 PMAG's for $20 each at that time the shelves were looking mor empty they were rationing sales on ammo and there were at least 5 or 6 people buying. I heard it was even worse there today when my Nephew went by.

So it's safe to assume that once the panic buyers completely clean out the stock of "ban-able" stuff I can just wander in and take my pick of the stuff no one cares about?

As for stories, I was in the area of my local Gander and the parking lot was 3/4 full.
Considering it's usually 1/5 full on a good day, well...

Was in the local Gander and Cabela's on Tues, and they were already down to only AR variants and semi-auto rifles OVER $2500-ish.
Little nuts.
I caught a guy in the parking lot saying he wanted to get some magazines on the phone. I told him to get back in the car... LOL
I'd sell some of mine, but I'm weird about supplying like that.
I'm all for this buy-up, but... I wonder if people really understand that they can't change the law INSTANTLY, and some of this instant freakout is unnecessary...

EDIT:
Midway is allowing backorders on almost anything, so I popped a couple of the spuer-high-cap Surefires into backorder status.

My next plan? 308 AR from Rock River most likely.

The walmart in Starkville sells reloading supplies ?

One LGS has provided catering food for the clerks for the past three days and none of them have had time to eat . It is a tsunami of panic buying. I lost count at around forty 4473 forms already filled out and waiting to pay. This does not include the ones where they are just beginning to complete the form. AR's are flying off the shelf. Many are going for 20% above MSRP. You actually must hold on tight to any model your're examining because it is sold the minute you put it down.

100 pmags were brought out and vaporized in minutes at $25 each.

I only hope that all those who are so anxious to buy will be ready to make their voices heard for stopping any "ban" that may come along.

I have been to 4 LGS today and 2 walmarts. I was able to find the following:

total of about 12 AR among all the above. One of the Wal-Marts had a sign posted in sporting goods written with a marker: "Sold out of AR's."

2 stores had no .223 ammo; one had 12 boxes, limiting customers to 5 each; another had about 100 boxes, limiting to 2 each; Walmart had no .223 at all.

It's a scary time my friends.

Sorry, no. I'm home in WV right now. There is only 1 Walmart within 20 miles here that I know of that sells reloading supplies.

Panic? What panic. Oh you must mean people who didn't buy when prices were cheap and supply was plentiful. LOL
