My father-in-law, John Fotheringham (late this year), toured europe with Patton, and happened to be the one on duty that took the dismissal message.
As it was marked "for Patton's eyes only", he had to hand it to him in person.
As John told the story, he recalled listening to his own heals "crossing that ballroom floor" -- they always took the nicest place left standing in town -- "passing through the guards, and getting Patton out of bed".
No mention was made of Patton sleeping with his revolver.
