PPK/S

tough call. in .32acp/7.65mm they are great guns but heavy for thier caliber, in .380acp/9mmkurts they recoil as much as a similar sized 9mm parabellum and gives folks like me slide bite.

classic design, very usable, just not for me.

I had a PPK/s stainless .380 S&W model that had extraction issues and fail to fire issues. I sent it back to S&W and they fixed it. They put a new slide on it. When it came back, the rails were scratched up/galled...but it was fixed.

I had one of the Interarms units back in the nineties, purchased as an off-duty/back-up piece when I was in law enforcement. It was a great gun, but did offer the "snappish" bite of being a thin-gripped one.

Haven't handled any of the S&W versions yet.

It is my understanding that the pistols made after the war were made in france up to like 85 or 86. even the ones marked ULM and germany on them. Ranger made them in the us after that and they were in alabama. the problems with the smiths is they changed a few things on them that gave them problems that were addressed on current producction.

ppk was stopped being imported by the 1968 law so you now had the ppk/s after that untill smith started making the small frame ppk again in 380. that is a small time line with a few exceptions.

I have a 1940 ppk, 1966 non import marked pp, mid 70's ppk/s 380 interarms, and a current made smith ppk 380.

I have an S&W-made PPK/S that I bought new last year. I was aware of all the mixed opinions on S&W versions and on PPKs and PPK/S guns in general but wanted one for a classic, steel-framed .380. Mine is very well put together and has not failed to feed fire even one time in a somewhat limited amount of shooting. I believe I might have to drift the rear sight just a smidge to the right to better center the groups but the gun is quite accurate. I'm quite pleased with it, though the DA trigger is rather heavy which is par for the course for these guns. PPK type pistols don't bite me badly but the extended beaver tail on the S&W guns takes care of that problem (though at some small visual cost). I'm very happy with mine and plan to keep it. Lot of Walther enthusiast like the German, French or Interarms models for various reasons. I've owned two of the IAs and three of the French Manurhins. One of my favorite EDCs is a Manurhin PP in .32 ACP.

S&W did have some QC issues with their early guns which led to a number of dissatisfied owners and bad comments on the forums. They even had a recall. Upside, S&W's Customer Service is really good about addressing issues and their recent offerings seem to have the bugs worked out.

Most on the Walther Forums like the .32 in this series of pistols over the .380. But there are a lot of happy .380 owners. Suggest you go to the forums and read up. A lot of great information can be found there.

I bought my first Walther PPK/s in '76 or '77. It was very comfortable for carry under my suit/sport coat in my Roy's Leather Goods (of Magnolia, Arkansa) pancake holster (which I still have). I later acquired a PP and now still own a S/S PPK that I purchased in ~'88.

I have a 2002 Walther PPK/s runs flawless no matter what I load in it
Yes it is on Recall but I have no issue with it from a safety testing it passes with flying colors,I read some guys who sent there in had only problems when they got it back
I like it shoot out standing and no slide bite

I really like the Interarms PPK/s in .380. I have small hands and it fits me perfectly as does my PPK/s .22LR Manurhins. A prewar PPK 7.65 fills out my battery.

I would probably sendi back. That's a pretty disastrous situation waiting to happen.

Shot it today with the others I got, and was quite impressed with the accuracy.

I have both Interarms and S&W versions. The only bad thing about the S&W is MIM small parts, if you feel as I do about MIM. The Interarms vesion has cast small parts, which I prefer. I make my living making metal parts for industry, replacement parts for broken or worn out, and MIM parts are at the bottom of my list of choices for "steel" parts. They don't deserve the name steel to my thinking.
Having said that, in every other way the S&W is IMO superior, or at least equal to the Ranger made gun in fit and finish. Both types have cast major parts, so no diff there.

Maybe it's the custom checkered grips, but my S&W feels much better in my hand, contrary to what some say. I confess I love my S&W PPK/s, and it is very accurate as someone said.

I guess it is a matter for the individual to decide. One MIM part in my S&W broke, S&W replaced it free. It's too bad manufacturers push inferior materials on us, on the other hand "Steel" MIM parts are considerably better than the latest trend, zinc based alloys.

I have had a Interarms PPK/S for years. I love it . I wouldn't walk across street for a S&W made . They made several changes to the design suppose to improve and less machine work. Well that brought about the total recall of all the S&W a few years back. I have watch several sold at my local dealer and traded back. I have never saw a used Interarms he sold traded back in . I just thinkS&W screwed up a great pistol. Used laser instead of rollmark slide . Check your slide bet sharp enough to almost shave with. See its little things that ad up.
Just to be fair I own several older S&W revolvers But won't buy a new one. Again is the cheaping of the product and the loss of quality . (Lock not a issue with me )

I will never sell My Interarms PPK/S and will buy another if I have a chance.

I have owned a Interarms PPK/s in .22LR. for about 10 or 11years & it is one of my most accurate .22s I own! I own a FEG' PMK in .380acp & it is a fine clone of the PP IMO. These will always have a following!
