Gunshow this weekend , last in year's end

I went last weekend. Saturday was packed. People sucked up 95% of the ammo before noon. Run of the mill used ARs were priced at $1k+ and selling. Mag prices were sky high.

The Nation's Gun Show in Chantilly, Virginia (outside Washington, D.C.), will open in a few hours. I expect it to be a zoo. Will post a report when I get back.

I'd be surprised if there aren't protesters there. Let us know what happens.

I'm sure it will be a total zoo. I've decided to skip this show again ... too chilly to stand in line for an hour or two ... or three.. to get in.

We have one last show this weekend. I'll be checking out the craziness.

I read that Code Pink will be protesting at the Dulles show on Friday.

I'm going to the Nations gunshow as well. Shortly after it opens at 3pm to avoid the panicky buyers and get a long-sought 1911. I expect by 5pm it will be unbridled insanity.

Last place I'd wanna be right now, every gun show around here has been nut to butt packed, no thanks.

I went to a local, small gunshow outside of Richmond last weekend because I mainly wanted to get out of the house for a few hours. Huge place, small number of tables, and crappy selection--all as I expected. But not packed by a longshot.

There is a show in Knoxville, TN, this weekend. I expect it to be packed onSaturday morning and stripped by Saturday afternoon.

I think I am going to pass.

I am sure the vendors have been selling their inventory over the holidays and will not have had time to resupply, if that is possible, by now.

Good Lord, folks, just left St. Louis show in St. Charles. Waited outside 45 min. PMags were going for $75/ea. Cheapies for $25. $75 for Mini-30 and Mini-14. 3 ARs...Black Rain for $2700 and $2900, Black Rain AR10 - $4000.

I'm hitting a local show first thing in the morning; at current prices, I should be able to sell one of my "spare" AR's for 2-3x what I paid for it.

Will report back tomorrow afternoon.

Edit: I went to the show, but it was canceled with no reason given. I'll be putting the rifle on Gunbroker instead (penny auction, no reserve, let the market decide).

Serious ammo buying -- all the major calibers selling well, and a few -- ahem, .223 and .556, cough -- going up in...smoke?

More ARs than expected, but all at one-and-a-half to twice their MSRP or more. Some of it crazy...and people are buying at those prices.

High capacity compact pistols selling well. Glock 19s, for instance, drying up compared to usual numbers; still can get G17s.

High cap mags going, going gone -- also at generally twice the price.

Non-tacticool tables largely ignored (even more so than usual).

Crowds unbelievable. Long lines hours ahead of opening.

I'm back from the Nation's Gun Show. It wasn't as bad as I had expected.

When the show opened at 3:00, the lines were stretched around the block in two directions. This is more people than I've ever seen at that show. But once inside, it was only about twice or three times as crowded as it usually is. There was a palpable difference in the quality of the crowd, as well. This time, it appeared that there were more serious people -- serious buyers -- and fewer weirdos and window-shoppers than previously. People were filling out Form 4473's three deep in the aisles around the larger dealers' tables.

Parking in the Expo Center lot was unobtainable, but I had no trouble finding a spot on the street a couple of blocks away.

Medea Benjamin and a small group of Code Pink protestors were on hand to greet the show-goers. But if it wasn't for her shouting by bullhorn, they wouldn't have been noticed.The protestors were outnumbered by the large contingent of Virginia State Police and local law enforcement.

AR-15's, AK's, and large-capacity magazines were available, but at two or three times their previous prices. Some dealers were asking as much as $6,000 for AR's, but I didn't see them selling at those prices. You could get 30-round AR magazines for $35, and 20-rounders for $25. But dealers' stock was noticably less than at previous shows.

People that I talked to didn't seem to have firm opinions on whether a ban would pass, or not. It seemed that the prevailing attitude at this time was more one of hedging their bets. I wouldn't call it panic, but rather skepticism and caution.

$75 for a pmag. SMH. I may drive by the next gun show. Not standing in line to get in though. If its that bad will just hit my LGS.

My favorite ammo supplier has cancelled his usual appearance at gun shows because he has nothing left to sell and is unable to obtain components needed to continue manufacturing at present. Another reports his supplier does not have stock and is not shipping 223 regardless. Walmart says they order daily but their distribution center has no ammo. I did snag the last box of 223 for $8. LGS states demand for 22LR was second to 223. No 22LR locally but I placed an online order with confirmed stock but order processing to ship is 3 weeks out. Another seller had stated he did the equivalent of 4 yrs of sales in the 4 days prior to Christnas. Going to a gun show??? Not me.
