What are some good pro-gun countries?

Here are the gun laws of my home state here in Australia.

Invasive.

Here in this country they like to try to tell me that a woman who is raped and strangled with her own underware is morally superior to a woman who has to explain to an officer why her attacker has a bullet hole in his chest.

Let me tell you, right here and right now, as a petite woman who has suffered a rape if I was allowed to carry an "equalizer" I would have damned well used it on my attacker.

"Allowed" seems like such a strange word in that sentence.

If you replaced the word "free", it would make more sense.

IF you were "free". You're not free.

I am not "allowed" to carry a handgun in this country.

It seems "strange" to me why you are nit picking such a trivial choice of words when there is so much more at stake.

My story isn't unique here and it's what your wives, daughters, grand daughters, sisters, aunts and grand mothers are facing if the gun ban is made law.

You're much better employed using your resources and your bandwidth to e-mailing you local and state reps.

I was pointed in this direction by my Sweetie who is a highly decorated, but retired, scout sniper.
He would move here to Australia in a heart beat if Australian laws allowed him to bring and keep the tools he earns his living with. *weapons instructor*

Yes I got active because I'm loath to see your countrymen and women fall for the lies your politicians are telling you.
Learn from the Australian example.

I'm a living (thankfully) and breathing example of the sort of violence that happens when an attacker knows that his victim is helpless.

Here in Australia there has been a marked increase in violent assaults since the ban.

I fully admit that this article was published in 2009 BUT this trend of assaults hasn't shown any signs of lessening.
If anything it's gotten worse.

Banning guns is NOT an answer to reducing assaults.

Skribs, A friend who moved to Panama tells me that background checks are required for all gun purchases but if you're allowed to purchase it you're allowed to carry it concealed. No restrictions on "assault weapons" but open carry is prohibited for non-uniformed personnel.

Ms. Dragon, vote with your feet! Move over here! We can use all the responsible gun owners we can get. I don't know what job field you're in but housing (thanks to Obamanomics) is pretty cheap.

The countries with the laxest gun laws also tend to be countries, at least at the moment, engaged in some form of warfare and/or civil unrest - like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia and a host of other third world nations. If the OP is meaning first world countries with a semblance of civilization, than Switzerland, Canada, Uruguay, Costa Rica, and several others come to mind. They may not be as "free" as Arizona but they pretty much leave things alone

I think you misunderstand my intention. I apologize if I caused offense.
I am not only sympathetic to your issue, but I was making a point of perspective, not just nitpicking language. i.e. your freedom has been taken from you. It should not be a question of what you or I are "allowed". We in the US do not believe the government can take these freedoms, legally. It should not be a question of "allowed". That's not up to the government to allow or not. The government is not "allowed" to restrict these freedoms. That's what freedom means. It's not a privligage that can be "allowed" or restricted. It is a right that cannot be taken from us. We restrict our government. The government does not "allow" us our rights.
If we fall into the same trap of the government choosing what is "allowed" then we will suffer the same fate as you. If we insist on our freedoms, the the government does not get to decide which of our freedoms they will "allow".

Any gun "ban" would be unConstitutional and we would hope for our Supreme Court to quickly strike it down as illegal.

Switzerland

Right ... GOOD LUCK becoming a citizen of Switzerland. Unless you are rich, and can PROVE you will sustain said high income, it's never going to happen.

Italy isn't that bad on guns. 10 round mag cap, no "military calibers", and a limit on the number of handguns a private citizen can own (something close to a dozen ) are the worst of it. And you may actually be able to become a citizen some day.

Wrong on Switzerland, all you need is a job or proof of income like a pension. Cost may be an issue, but Europe has always been more expensive.

Look at the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Columbia, New Zealand.

NZ sells full autos and suppressors, but the costs for reloading supplies is 5X here

Being Swiss citizen is easier than getting swiss ccw..

But then again, you really don't need a ccw in Switzerland

Why? Some pf us might actually WANT to move somewhere else, and guns would NOT be the deciding factor, but a nice consideration
