Another CZ-82 Question...

Theoretically yes, but practically no. I have heard that you could in case of emergency. But supposedly you do not want to make it a practice.

Besides, 9mm Mak is a lot cheaper than .380

Both rounds headspace on the front of the case.
The 9x18 (Makarov) case is 18 mm long. The .380 case is 17 mm long. The firing pin may reach the .380 primer and then it may not.

Also, the 9x18 bullet is .364/5 diameter and the .380 is .355 (9mm) diameter. There will be a lot of blow by past the smaller diameter bullet causing a drop in muzzle velocity and possibly a reduction in accuracy.

In the past I have done a good bit of testing using .355 (9mm) and .357 (38 Special) bullets in the Makarov. The results were OK, with even pretty good accuracy. But since .364 bullets for reloading are available it's not necessary to use the undersized bullets.

I have even successfully shot full load 9mm rounds in the Makarov.
This was under very controlled conditions, so DON'T you do this in your 9x18 guns.

All in all the Makarov is quite a gun. (I have a bunch of Makarovs, CZ82/83 and P-63 pistols)

Why? 9x18 is readily available on the Internet ammo dealers for $11.00 bx/50 vs. $13.50 bx/50 for .380.

The .380acp case is much smaller the the 9x18mm Mak. The 9mm luger and the 9x18mm mak are closer. In fact many Makarov shooters that reload use regular 9mm brass but resizing it and trimming it down 1mm. The bullet or projectile diameter is basically the same on the .380acp and the 9mm luger .355. The Makarov 9x18mm is .364. I WOULD NEVER TRY IT. YOU MIGHT GET AWAY WITH IT BUT YOU STAND A BIGGER CHANCE OF DAMAGING YOURSELF AND YOUR PISTOL.

Use ammo which is intended for the gun. Great gun just do not take apart into more components then necessary for basic cleaning/maintenance or you will need to ship parts in plastic baggie to CZ-USA for re-assembly.

Adjustable sights.
It happens to be one of the last ones I bought, in 2009. 9x18 Unfired, still in the box. $319

You'd be silly not to. IMO, it'd make a great defense round, is still cheap, and even though it adds another cartridge, its still a conversation piece.

If you buy Buffalo Bore +p, use it only in Maks, Radom pistols, or CZs. I don't recommend use in the FEG.

I bought the gun at a Dallas gun show.
It belonged to a FFL dealer from Texarkana. The dealer had the gun refinished by a local gunsmith. I don't remember the dealers name. He said he had it dressed up for a personal gun but never fired it.

It's the best work I've seen on any gun. Soon as I saw it I had to buy it. As I recall it was $340.

I'll probably never fire it, simply because I've got 16 or 17 other Makarovs to shoot.

Confession time. I have shot 380 in a 9x18.

It was unintentional - I was in a big hurry to load up a pistol to shoot a raccoon that was sick and threatening the yard pets. It took four shots to connect. This was in a CZ82 that always shoots accurately so I was really wondering what was going on until I picked up one of the cases. Once I saw how bulged it was I knew what I had done.

The thing harmed was the raccoon.
