I went with an Oehler 35. The advantage of this model (more expensive than its competition) is that each measurement is taken twice; if the measurements don't agree, then it recognizes that the result was incorrect and flags it as an error. I think this is a worthy feature: if I'm measuring a sample of rounds and get all within a 30 fps spread, then get that one that's off by 125 fps, does that mean there was a problem with a round, or a problem with measurement?

If I wasn't going to get an Oehler there's a newer model on the market for ~ $200 that velcros on to your rifle barrel that's probably worth serious consideration. Of course, you're shooting for accuracy *or* measuring velocity, not both.

Magnetospeed. It attaches to the end of the barrel so wind isn't an issue.

Another Oehler 35P here.
I bought it way back in 1991 and it’s been operating faithfully all this time, till the little printer stopped advancing the paper last year. There was no way I thought that Oehler was still supporting this model, never mind making them, but I contacted them anyway via Email.
I received a reply that day apologizing for my printer troubles and explaining that the little printers were crapping out at about the 12-14 year mark and that they weren’t being imported anymore. I have no idea how many rolls of paper went through my little printer, but it was a bunch. They also explained that they were buying calculators with printers and stripping out the printers to support their customers. Bottom line is, for $50 they replaced my printer and did an overhaul on my chronograph to include replacing a couple parts I’d lost and broken. It now operates just as well as it did new in 1991.
It’s awesome to see an American company support their products!

Oh, and if it helps, IIRC Dr. Oehler invented the chronograph.

I use the green Chrony.
Directly from Oehler is the only way I know of.

The Oehler was my first choice. Just before I was ready to buy someone told me about the CED. When I looked at the CED I was very impressed. One of the things I liked about the CED was you could use it with Infrared sensors so that you do not need light. When I asked Oehler if their chrony would work with Infrared they told me that was impossible.
The person that told me that had a last name of Oehler. Not to long after this they closed down. I got the CED and couldn't be happier. I know Oehler has reopened again now.
When it comes to chronies you want the readout to be far from the screens so you can't shoot it. Also you want as big an opening between the screens as possible.

Thanks Chuck and good to know. Mine is about two years younger than yours and still going strong. When I shot a sky screen reflector great service and I bought a few extra pieces.
I like the 35P as I can take my little print out, write notes on the back and place it with the ammunition I was shooting which is already labeled with all the load data.

I've got the PACT professional. The base is remote so there's no danger of shooting it and it automatically calculates AV, ES and SD for you, among other features. I hear the newer ones use IR sensors so you don't have to worry about lighting when you use it. I've had mine for almost 13 years and haven't had any problems with it, other than shooting the skyscreens. Thank God for the remote base! Skyscreens are much cheaper.
