I placed an order for 4000 Hornady 55g FMJBT from brassmanbrass.com, but the shipment I received last week was 2000 bullets short. I didn't realize this until after Xmas when I finally got around to opening the box. They were all out of the Hornadys so offered to fill the order with the Armscor bullets. I accepted their offer, but after talking to a friend about the bullets I wished I hadn't.

It appears that there is very little uniformity in these bullets. Weights, lengths, and cannelure location seem to vary quite a bit. Since I still have a few thousand Hornadys to use I've decided to try sorting the Armscors to see how bad the problem is. Worst case I know some guys who need ammo for reaction drills who will buy them off of me.

I placed an order myself yesterday. I saw mixed reviews... But I figured it was better than nothing and will suffice for a shtf stash....

From where I've been looking the only large quantities available at a decent price are the small ones, 36-45gr. What kind of twist rate do those need?

It's panic buying like in this thread that's causing the shortages and no-stock on everything. If everyone would just calm down everyone would be able to buy normal quantities of what they need. (and the prices will stay lower)

Except relatively few people read this thread (or others) to realize that they're supposed to be "panicked."

It's the same as 2008, only 10x worse because THIS time, it's no longer speculation: he's said what he wants to do and he means it.

That's a lovely ideal and it speaks to all of us on a number of different levels. Thank you for reminding us that this wouldn't be a problem if the masses acted in a rational manner.

It's kind of bizzaro to me...

"maybe" the libs can push through another ban on hi cap mags....

does anyone really think that 55 gr. .224 bullets are going to be banned?

Or primers?

Oh well.... I gave up on finishing my bench rest AR build and put my pennies into a new press. Apparently the mindless masses aren't hoarding those yet. :(

This is what someone else said earlier today, "If I buy it it is to lay in a reasonable stock, If you buy it is panic buying and hoarding."

I couldn't have put it any better myself.

Glad I'm still at an 'ok' level of my 55gr FMJBT's. Need to get more TAC (1-2 pounds shuold be good) and finish reloading all my 5.56 brass...

Panic buying. Haha. Every time there is some one at 1600 PA Ave, with a D behind their name. Panic buying should insue but doesn't until they start running their mouth about AWB. (Last time I checked my firearms don't go off unless trigger is pulled, mine are in the safe) I'm glad those in DC are helping the economy but doing this talking, but price gouging is taking place and I feel sorry for tjouse that are trying to buy the "Panic buyers list".

But yes first thing to fly off shelves is black guns, then mags, then components.

If we buy 5,000, 10,000 or even 20,000 primers because of a good sale and wanting to cover the Hazmat fee that is stocking up. Buying 100,000 or more primers for personal use is hording! And yes, there are those buying that many at one time for personal use, not a group buy. Even if I wanted to buy that many I couldn't afford them.

Some people shoot alot.

Buying a few years worth of primers sounds prudent to me if one had the ability and storage space.

What's alot of primers to you might not be to someone else.

As of this morning the Hornady bulk at Midway are expected 2/3/13 with no backorder option. I'm sure you were correct when you posted but Midway is more often wrong than not about backorder dates even when there is no panic.

Hardly, and trying to inject your personal ethics as to how many primers someone else should wish to buy(Or anything else legal, for that matter) is foolish.
Lordy lordy, if I could afford to buy 100k primers I'd have 100k moused away split up in a couple locations. Heh, I'm probably almost half way there now.
