6mm br Norma - need info

It is the ultimate place for the 6mmBR cartridge. I went there after I bought mine earlier this year.

My rifle is also a 1 in 12" twist. I haven't shot the bullet you mention yet, but I do have some Speer 70 Grain TNTs I need to load up.

The most accurate bullet I've found is the Berger 80 grain Varmint FBHP. So far, I've had a few groups in the 2's using Lapua brass, CCI BR-4 match primers, the Bergers and 30.5 grains of Varget. My OAL is 2.260".

One thing that helps with OAL is to accurately measure your rifle using an OAL gauge. Hornady has one, that they bought from Stoney Point. This allows you to find out if your rifle likes the bullet jammed or jumped. They explain this really well on the site above. Sorry if you've already been to that site, no disrespect intended.

I'm still excited about how well this round shoots, so I get a little rambunctious when I run across another shooter with the caliber. LOL
It's a great caliber which is easy to shoot well. There is a guy who holds the world record group with this round; he shot a 5 found group measuring .871" at 600 yards. I'd imagine he used heavier bullets with a faster twist, but still the accuracy is astounding.

Ive got 2 6br's myself however I run the 105 bergers and 107 sierras out of my 8 twist...My guns shoot lights out at 300-600 yds even off a bipod..easy to shoot easy to tune...ultra efficient cartridge. So long as Im alive Ill own a 6br I like it that much.

I made a mistake in my first post. The OAL is actually 2.20", not 2.260" as I posted. Sorry about that, brain cramp.

I love this cartridge, though. I want to get an 8 twist rifle someday so I can shoot the heavier bullets accurately. The 12 twist is probably only good to around 90 grain bullets, maybe less.

That thing really has a 12 twist? I'm suprised. At any rate, my 6PPC has a 12 twist & the most accurate bullets I've found are the Berger 80 grain Varmint FBHP @ the lands & the Nosler 80gr ballistic tip .005" off the lands. FWIW and all...

I got a 6mm BR about two years ago. The rifle was built by Jim Borden using Gary Eliseo's tube gun kit. It has a Borden action, 26 inch Krieger medium varmint contour barrel, 1-12 twist. With my scope (Nightforce 12-42x56), the rifle weighs about 13.5 pounds.

I built the rifle for varmint shooting.

So far my most accurate load is as follows:

Lapua brass
Federal match primers
29.3 grains Benchmark
85 grain Sierra BTHP
1.76 OAL (THIS IS MEASURED AT THE OGIVE!!!!!!!!)

In my rifle this equates to a jump of .015.

I have also used 75 grain Hornady V-max's for a little more velocity on Prairie Dogs. That recipe is 32.8 grains of Varget again using Lapua brass and Federal match primers. I will have to check on the OAL for this recipe.

This is easily the most accurate rifle I own! It almost makes shooting tight groups child's play!

2.20" is the correct OAL I use in my rifle. It works very well in my rifle, but each rifle will be different.

This is the most accurate rifle I own by far. It even makes my shooting look good.

Ping, what dies did you wind up buying? When it came time to buy dies, I bought Redding dies with the neck sizing bushing. I've heard Forster has excellent dies as well.

I bought the Redding dies from Midway USA but it was back in early March. They carry those Berger FBHP 80 grain bullets too.

In case you wanted Lapua brass, Champion's Choice and Powder Valley carry that, and unlike AR stuff it's usually in stock.

Does the Sierra manual have good info for the 6mm BR Norma caliber? I have Lymans, Nosler, and Hornady's manuals and the info on this caliber leaves a bit to be desired. They have limited info for the 6mm BR Rem caliber, but it is mostly for lighter bullets. I have a Savage Model 12 Benchrest on order and have bought some supplies/dies to start loading. I've found a lot of suggested loads on 6mmbr website and their forum and Savage Shooters forum, but I would like to verify that the loads i'm reading fall within the published ranges from some manual. Having a hard time doing that. I've checked Hodgdon's website and from what i've found, it has the most data out there.

One particular recipe I found that i'd like to verify is

1. Lapua Brass
2. CCI 450
3. 30.3grns Varget
4. 105grn A-Max
5. 2.330 OAL

Lapua Brass will fit perfect into your chamber. The only thing I would recommend is;

1. Full Length Size your new brass
2. Trim your new brass to 1.55

Someone on the 6mmbr forum suggested this load to a person buying a Savage. Hodgdon's website does not show load data for a 105 gr bullet, but they do show info for 100 and 107 gr bullets as follows: Using Varget, the min/max loads are 26.0/28.0 (100 gr) and 26.0/29.0C (107 gr). From what Hodgdon's site shows, the recipe above seems like it'd be pretty hot, but I've read other people also using Varget with the 105 gr bullets and using 30+ grains of powder.

Luckily I have some time before my gun arrives to do my research. Just looking for some good published data that would cover bullets from 70-107 grains. Is the Sierra manual what I've been looking for?

That load, that I see referenced a lot, is .5gr over what QuickLoad says is the max. Many lots of Varget vary quite a bit so I would start lower and work up.
