The people complaining about hoarding probably aren't sitting on several years of components.

I've placed 4 orders for things that were low on my priority list before I started to get nervous about not being able to get them whenever. So far I am 4 for 4 on getting what I want at this stage of the panic. If I were trying to buy any of that stuff right now I'd be 0 for 4. Getting in before stuff runs out is the best way to avoid adding your order to the back of the backorder log.

It seems that our hobby is so prone to shortages of supplies and equipment, that we naturally hoard stuff when we can find it. Sort of like our grandparents who lived through the depression

I buy components in bulk and on sale when I can because it saves money - not because I want to hoard them. Hoarding means buying them just to hold them, I load and use them regularly. I'm probably close to the OP as far as components but I didn't buy it all at one time, or in the last few months - although since the last primer shortage I did start buying primers by the 1000s rather than a few hundred at a time.

It seems to me that we as shooter & reloaders Spook, and change directions like a large flock of starlings!!

All it takes is a rumor, or an imagined threat.
A lot of herd or flock instinct at work here!

And then, there are a gazillion speculators out there buying up reloading supplies that have never reloaded a round, and never intend too.
And probably don't shoot much either.

I hope their house blows up without hurting anyone from the selfish hording!

There is absolutely no way any manufacture could anticipate what has happened in the last 1 1/2 months.

Or keep an inventory or manufacturing capacity large enough to keep up with these stupid highs & lows
we inflect on ourselves every few years!!

I tend to buy enough to last me 6 months at a time plus have a six month supply of loaded ammo on hand at any given time. that being said, I just recently was able to was able to place an order for 7k tula srp(6 k for use in pistol, 1k for use in rifle), 3k tula lpp and 5lbs of HP38 for use in all pistol loads.... now I just need to track down some bullets and powder!

as for pistol bullets... today I just turned 45 pounds of beercan shaped chunks of lead into 850 38spl bullets and 750 45 bullets.

If that's a problem, than many of us share the same problem as you.

I buy much more than the op mostly to save money but also to avoid the shortages. Im still shooting primers that cost me $16.99/1000.

I'm still shooting primers manufactured in the 70's that I inherited from my Uncle.

Hoarding must run in our family.

Ha ha I try to keep what I anticipate as 2 years reloading supplies ahead for these speed bumps we hit every so often. The only thing that I did not do this with is the .22 ammo.:banghead: I have enough to get through this years postal league but I did not sign up this year as that would seriously deplete my rainy day .22 supply. Guess I will have to start to shoot my 38 SPL's more again as I have plenty of stuff on hand to reload a couple gazilion of them with. I feel that if you can buy in bulk and when on sale at the same time it is the best hedge against inflation hands down.

I have been buying in bulk and when on sale for a long time. It just makes sense in terms of savings.

But, I will admit, after 2009, I have increased my inventories on hand over what I kept prior to 2008. A little extra here and there over several years and I am set for a while during the current panic.
