Was out shooting on Saturday on some BLM land that everyone shoots at out here in Arizona and we were approached by Rangers. Never seen them before, outside of their vehicles so I don't know how normal their attire was.
They walked up to us (thankfully I had to make a phone call to help out a friend and neither myself or my friend had a firearm in our hands.

The first one came up to us, donning a tac vest and a sidearm holstered, then two more came up. Two came in a lifted Ram 1500 and the other in a Chevy Tahoe, both with RANGER decals on the sides.
The other two were wearing the same gear and seemed really friendly at first, I had left my truck door open on the passenger side from getting some drinks out of the cab and they decided to look through it (plain sight laws I'm assuming, that was my mess up) and they were looking underneath my truck on all the sides, as well as looking at my guns (didn't touch, just looking).
Asked for my name, first and last, didn't ask for IDs.
Asked what were were shooting at and if the plastic jugs were ours, to which we replied yes and we were going to take them with us, as well as explaining my practice of taking more out of the desert than we brought with us.

The first (presumably the lead officer, as the others didn't say or ask much) officer went back to his vehicle, and the others were just making small-talk (i.e. "who's the best shot?") and we made jokes etc. they then said "Well, have a good time guys" and started to walk off. That's when the other officer came back and asked if I was Mr. (Last name here), I replied yes and he said "Okay, well that's good, we confirmed that this is your truck". Alright, well yeah, they could have asked for ID and registration and that would have solved that lol, but I went along with it.

I was then asked if I had any methamphetamine in my truck or on my person and if they ran their drug dog around my truck if they would find anything. I said no, and that we were law abiding citizens that did not associate with anything of the sort. He stopped me and asked to let him tell us everything before I make a decision. He explained he has the legal power of the BLM which gave him state jurisdiction and power, county Sheriff, and DEA. He said "If you have methamphetamine, do not tell me. If you have marijuana, medical marijuana, heroin, ecstasy, etc. tell me now and it will be a citation and not an arrest". I again told them I don't use drugs nor have them in my vehicle and he thanked me, we talked a bit about me preparing joining the USMC (he said he was a former 0311) and told me to stop smoking, then proceeded to get their truck stuck in a hole right near my shooting area and bent their bumper.

Apparently they were doing this to everyone in the area, including a guy farther up who was shooting his AK when they came up, asked him to drop the mag and leave it on the ground and when they left, accidentally ran it over, smashing it.

Anyone ever experience stuff like this before? I've been shooting for years and never once have I ever been confronted by law enforcement.

I had a DNR officer approach once as we were camping/ target shooting on state land. Didn't ask for ID, didn't even care that we were armed and shooting. She did ask for our camping permit (which we didn't have). She came back later with the form, we filled it out and had it displayed (no fee for camping there, just needed the form displayed).

Did they do anything for the guy whose magazine they ran over?

Had a similar experience with Washoe county Sheriffs outside Reno when I lived there. Gave me, my wife and buddy a ration of sh*t about shooting in the desert because some motor cyclists where mad that we were in their "riding spot" and called the Sheriffs Dept. We were shooting in a safe manner, though that didn't stop a a sawed off Napoleon complex having female deputy from trying to dress me down for what she called shooting in a poor spot with improper back stop. Mind you we were shooting into a 24 foot tall sand bank.

"that didn't stop a sawed off Napoleon complex having female deputy..."

now that's funny. I can actually visualize her.

where were you exactly? I have shot at upper and lower sycamore, Queen Valley and sugar loaf, and only ever been approached once by a solitary ranger during a shooting session. He just asked if we were going to pick up our trash to which I replied that we always leave the place better than we found it and take all our own trash/shells home. He was content with that, said "have fun" and left, no plates or ID's ran. This was a year ago at lower sycamore. I am surprised to here about such lousy ranger behavior, usually I like them better than most LEO's

I'm not sure they were aware. He said as they were driving out they ran it over, accidentally I'm assuming. They weren't very careful about where they drove, given the big hole they drove into at our spot lol.
I told him to call the Rangers office and file a complaint and see if he can get reimbursed for it. Guy seemed like a jerk anyways, he was bumping music real loud while shooting (who does that?) and called his magazine a clip, so I didn't have much sympathy for his "clip" getting run over :p

How possibly would possesion of a schedule 1 drug result in only a citation?

What a bizzare situation.

Lol, who the heck wasted my tax dollars on tactical equipment for park rangers? Are kidding me? They don't even doing anything other than stop teenagers from having sex in their cars.
