I would like some of your pet loads for the 40 S&W.

I think TG is the best powder for minimum loads in the 40.

40 XTP 155 231 5.4 923 SPFD XD
40 L 155 231 5.3 912 SPFD XD
40 XTP 155 TightGroup 5.8 1069 SPFD XD

Spread sheets don't cut&past well.

The TightGroup loading gives me more velocity but I use the 231 most of the time. Almost the same trajectory with both lead and jacketed.

Dis-calmer: This data is for reference only. Loaded with my components, in the manner that I load they are safe in my weapon/s. This does not infer that these loads are safe in your weapon/s, with your component, loaded in the manner that you load.

135 berrys plated bullet over 5.3 grains of win 231/hp-38. This load is very soft in my XD 4". My brother has and XD 5" and has to run 5.7 grains of powder for the same load. I run as light as possible, due to shooting competitions and needing speed.

231/hp38 is a great universal powder for pistols. It is great for 9,40,45,38spl,45 colt, 44 spl, and it works in 357 mag and 44 mag for light loads. It is also fairly easy to find data for it. It even works well for my dad's 9mm compensated 1911 race gun, but we have to load over the max published data (very common for race guns).

A couple of favorites:

Rainier 180gr HPFB with 4.2gr of TiteGroup OAL 1.125 891.7 fps (Glock 23)
Rainier 180gr HPFB with 7.2gr of AA#7 OAL 1.125 908.3 fps (Glock 23)
Precision Delta 180gr JFN 4.2 of TiteGroup OAL 1.125 844 fps (Sig P226)

all with Winchester SPP.

7.7 gr of Longshot with a 180gr Hornady XTP loaded to 1.120"with range pickup brass gives me right at 1180fps out of my Glock 22. 8gr is listed as max for what it's worth. This load really livens up the feedback from my G22, G27, and PM40.

For plinking loads that gives me the 1.5" groups at 50' I use the 180gr Bayou Bullet with range pickup over 6.1 gr of Power Pistol loaded to 1.115" OAL. I didn't own a chrono when I developed this load, so I'm not really sure of the muzzle velocity.

Dirty

For general range use I usually load a plated 155-165 bullet (depending on local supply) and AA #7 in the 9 gr range with a CCI spp.

Here are two of mine.

155 gr. XTP's, or 155 gr. Gold Dots for bullets. And then either Longshot or HS6 for the powder and CCI-500's. As for powder charge tables, I recomend you find a powder or bullet manufacture charge table online, or buy a book. Personally, I would not use any data that isn't from a trusted SAAMI approved source, too much risk of human error.

I wish I would have done this also... I just bought Power Pistol off the cuff to reload 40 S&W... I'm sure I will be able to use it, just may not be the best choice...

Always verify data posted, and work up yourself. That said my favorite loads are:
180gr Berry's RSFP/ 3.8gr WST/ OAL: 1.129"/CCI SPP = Glock22 w/15lb recoil spring
180gr Berry's RSFP/ 4.0gr WST/ OAL: 1.129"/CCI SPP = XDm40 4.5 w/ factory spring

Note: 3.8gr is .1gr below the recommend start charge. It will cycle a factory spring in a glock fine for range use, but slide speed was a little slow for double taps.

I'm using 5.4gr UN behind a 175gr cast bullet. I can't remember how I came up with this load, so use at your own risk.

I used the following, work up you own load using the proper manuals.

Light & accurate: 155gr LSWC - 4.0gr Title group - 1.130 OAL
Indoor range: 165gr FP plated - 7.6gr HS-6 - 1.125 OAL
Outdoor range: 180gr Lead RN - 6.6gr HS-6 - 1.125 OAL

Power pistol is the absolute best powder for 40S&W that I have ever used. Mid to max loads with any fmj, shoot great in my CZ40B, and in my G23, G35
