just bought some hornady .452dia 250gr xtp hp for my 45 colt revolver pistol.can anyone get me a low to high powder charge using bullseye powder.I have a speer book and it lists no .452 at 250grains for the 45colt.

Get a different powder.

Universal is a good one for the 250gr XTP.

250 GR. HDY XTP Hodgdon Universal .452" COL=1.595" Start:7.5gr 705fps 10,300 CUP Max:8.5gr 856fps 14,000 CUP

I'd most likely use something different too. If that's what you have & want to use it though, the Hodgdon site should have data.

Sorry, I was thinking Titegroup.

Alliant lists 7.1gr of Bullseye for a 260gr Jacketed bullet, so 7.0gr aught to put you where you want to be. Although, as the other posters have said, there are better powders.

I already have bullseye,I load my 45acp with it.I would like to use the same powder for both.Trying to keep things as simple and price efective as possible.I found a load for the semiwad cutters for the 45colt,But cant seem to find one for the 250gr.452 hornadyxtp hp.The bulleye seems to shoot great with the wadcutters.any help is appreciated.

The new Hornady 9th Edition manual lists this data for a 250gr XTP bullet in the .45 Colt using Bullseye: 5.7gr for 600 fps to 6.5gr for 750 fps Max.

m715,

You don't need to find load data for the exact bullet you are using. Load data for a slightly heavier bullet of the same construction (Jacketed) such as I gave you in my first post will work just fine.

went by loacal gun shop today,he was nice enough to let me look at the hornady book.hornady load for the bullet I want to use .452 250grn xtp hp with bullseye for 45colt was 5.7 to 6.5. 6.5 was listed as max.

So you didn't like the same exact data I took the time to post for you in Post #6 at you requested?

I was gonna say.

ArchAngelCD took time out of his busy schedule to look it up in his Hornady #9 and post the data you ask for at 10:25 this morning.

So you go back to the gun store at 3:00 to copy the manual you don't want to buy yourself?

I mean, he bought the books and read them for you already!!

UNIQUE would be a simple & cost effective powder that might serve you better for both calibers

Boy, you can say that again!!

Unique is THE .45 Colt / 255 grain bullet powder.

And All I have used in .45 ACP for the last 40+ years with 230's is also Unique.

I guess thats what makes it so Unique, to me at least.

+1 for using another powder besides Bullseye. I like something thats going to fill that huge case a little more and not risk a double charge.

sorry archangelcd,To be honest I must haved skipped right by that post when I logged back on.Since I found the load that day I was going to put an end to the post.I didnt even look for new posts after I had logged on that morning .But I would like to say thanks for your time, and the info.

I do understand the difficulty of buying more powder for both price and availability. I'm sorry the powder you have is so unsuitable. (anything else on your shelf?)

Do you have any other handgun powders in the house? Bullseye is an extremely fast powder that's not a good choice for such a large case like the 45 Colt, especially with the weight of bullets it uses.

So unique is a better powder for the 45colt,and the 45acp. I use a 200 grn bullet in my 45acp.will unique do well with that weight bullet as well in the 45acp?If unique is a better powder for both I will change powders. Is unique a better powder simply because it burns slower?what are the reasons it would be so much better? I am not well educated on the different powders.
