TX to CA with a revolver

When out of your vehicle and outdoors in a city, long gun needs to be in a gun case of some kind, or locked in another kind of case (guitar, golf, sports bag).

Handgun transport in CA requires unloaded in a locked case. Ammo may be in speed strips or speed loaders, or not, and ammo may be in that same locked case. That locked case may be located anywhere in your vehicle you like; the case may be soft- or hard-sided.

The handgun in its locked case may be transported anywhere in your vehicle, and carried from your vehicle to your residence, or from your vehicle to your place of work (if OK with your employer) without issue.

CA honors no out of state CCW, except LEO via LEOSA.

Law and case law suggest that carry at work, the 'late nite construction site' is very "iffy"; needs to be a 'closed' site, fenced or guarded to restrict entry; then, with owner/employer permission, could open carry.

If your construction site is school property, cannot bring a handgun there without CA CCW (or usual CA LEO or CA security guard), none of which you would appear to have.

Another note: while in that hotel, DO NOT LET ANYONE SEE any firearms. Panic is the rule of the sheep, the cops will be hard on you, and if discovered you will be hassled. You might be legal, but you WILL be hassled.

Another note:
Per CA laws [PC 26055], you can legally have a loaded firearm in your hotel room.
Per CA laws [PC 25605(a)], you can legally conceal carry or open carry a firearm in your hotel room.
For both need to stay in your room, can't legally carry it or have it loaded outside of your room.

This is just paranoia. Hotel staff may think it's odd but even if they call the police (really unlikely) they're not going to show up unless someone says you pointed it at someone or said something threatening. And if they did show up and didn't bring a warrant then there's nothing they can do.

California is still America.

It may still be America, (even So Cal where I work) but I have SEEN it, and watched it go down as part of my profession.

Leave the rifle at home, unless you are going to lock it in your truck at the construction site. It WILL get stolen from your hotel room if you leave it there.

If your construction site is in the Central Valley (Bakersfield to Sacramento) or eastern desert, you won't have hassles over your pistol as long as you follow the rules Librarian laid out. If it's in the Los Angeles basin, it's iffy. If it's in San Francisco, quit now!

Depends on where you are in California. Also, the hotel may well refuse to let you stay.
