XDs 9mm is here

For those of you that hadn't heard, the 9mm XDs was announced at SHOT this week.

I just bought a Walther PPS in 9mm, so I probably won't be getting the XDs myself, but having more options to choose from is always a great thing!

The only complaint I have with the XDs is the grip texture. More specifically, the edges on the thumb shelf/scallop are sharp and do not feel too good. My PPS, OTOH, feels great in my hand, grip texture and all. I'd be very interested to see a size comparison between the PPS and XDs, actually.

I am going to put one of these on order at my LGS. Been looking for it to come out for a while now.
 
I own both an XDs and a Kahr PM9, and if the new 9mm XDs is the same size as the 45 acp version, go with the Kahr, it is quite a bit smaller.
 
Thanks for the advice, but I don't care for the Kahr trigger, . . . and like having the grip safety.
 
Shootability is also a HUGE concern for me. The PM9 just doesn't fill my hand enough to stay put while shooting. The slightly longer (from front to back) grip of the XDs or PPS w/ large backstrap makes for a much better shooting experience. If Kahr wants to stay in the game, they need to do three things:

#1 improve quality control
#2 improve quality control
#3 offer interchangeable backstraps
 
Springfield really missed an opportunity when it comes to this one...IN MY OPINION. Instead of a Kahr PM9 sized gun with an XD trigger, we get a fatter S&W Shield-sized gun with an XD trigger. And the 9mm weighs MORE than the 45. This just seems lazy to me.

Oh well, the Shield is selling like hotcakes and this probably will to. Not the gun I want, but I'm sure there will be plenty of takers.
 
In the past I've not been a huge fan of the XD series In plastic I prefer the Glock,But after buying the XDS I would be interested in the 9 version.I dont mind the extra weight.I do wish they had a +1 mag extention though,The 7 rounders make the grip quite large.With the 7 its longer than my 19.A pierce
type +1 it would fit (my)hand perfect and still conceal well.I do like the grip safety as I shoot a lot of 1911 and it makes re holstering a bit safer than my Glocks.I do however prefer the Glock trigger over the XDS,Trigger kits anyone?
 
I shoot .45 well. That's why I got the XDs, as well as the grip fitting my hand. I think I'll skip the 9mm version since the .45 works for me. If I were a 9mm shooter, I'd have bought that one. The Kahrs are nice, but don't quite fit my hand right. Same for Ruger LC9. I'm a bigger dude. If you are too and are looking for a small carry gun, the XDs works well.

I love the .45 cartridge too. There is just something fun about walking around with a .45 that is so small. Practical as hell for me. I like extremes in my guns.

They said they have a 7-round and a 9-round magazine for the pistol.
 
The thing I like about the XDs is it is one of the few single-stack pistols I've seen that has the same MOA as the double-stack version (the other being Glock). The Shield, for example, eschews the ambi slide stop, reversible magazine catch, and the no-manual-safety option of the M&P series.

However, I personally have no need for a single-stack pistol of this size, so it is not on my list.
 
they seem to make good guns but this seems like a gun made for those who want a pocket 9 without getting a true pocket 9.

im sure theyll sell a lot, some folks cant handle the .45acp in the same package so this is the ticket to keep those folks around.

This is where I think most people are mistaken. IMHO all the guns we're talking about here are better suited for IWB concealed carry and not pocket carry. For true pocket carry, even the PM9 is too large for me. An extra quarter inch of length or a couple of extra ounces isn't going to be a deal breaker when carried IWB w/ a proper holster and gun belt. All that matters is that the gun is THIN, which all of the guns being discussed here are. They are all right around .90" thick from top to bottom if you ignore control lever thickness. Basically, what I'm saying is that a PM9 and a XDs are going to carry exactly the same when carried IWB. Pocket carry is a different story and I can understand wanting the absolute smallest gun out there, but again, I don't think these guns are intended for pocket carry. Pistols like the Ruger LCP, R9, etc would make for a better pocket gun.
 
So, which one should I get? I can't afford both...

I would go for the 9mm if it was me because it holds a few more rounds and will likely kick a little less. I have handled the .45 version and it seems like recoil would be substantial in a package that small. Just my opinion though and others are certainly entitled to theirs.
 
I looked at the XDs and the P938 for a new carry. I got the Sig because it is smaller, and 9mm cost less to play with than .45 does. Already have a couple of .45 anyway. If the XDs 9mm had been out, I'm not sure what I would have chosen. :confused:
