I am researching upper end 1911 possibilities for under $1000.00. I want one with a fully forged frame. Already have a mid-range 1911 in Rem. R1. Any suggestions? I would love to get a Colt; especially one with a beavertail; but that doesn't seem possible unless I buy a used one. The only two that I see in that realm are Kimber Custom II and some of the Sig models. I guess the Kimber Custom II is forged; but don't know. Thanks for your insights.

My Colt Combat Elite was $900. It's a fantastic gun.

Probably the best under $1000 option in Colt 1911s if you want the typical upgrades.

Springfield has some really good models under $1000. Either their Loaded line, or the Range Officer. The Range Officer is one of the best bangs for the buck out there. It isn't pretty, but it has a match barrel and is fitted here in the states (as opposed to Brazil, with some of their other guns). Every one I've handled in the stores was fit like a custom and had marvelous 4lb or less crisp trigger pulls. I've seen them sell for as low as $750.

The Sigs IMO are a real nice pistol in their price range. The early ones were reputed to have some issues but they seem to have been resolved.
I've been shooting a Sig TacOps Carry for about a year and can say there isn't a thing about it I'd change.
Springfields Range Officer is another that would be a great option to look at. I don't own one personally but a retired CLEO friend of mine has one and and it's a very accurate and reliable firearm.
As another poster already pointed out, even with the current "panic buying" frenzy notwithstanding, they can be had for $750ish if you shop around.

"Upper end" is a pretty objective term.

Under a $1000? No. Under $2000? A used Baer can be had.

I have to agree...at $1k, you're just getting into the 1911 mid-range
Your R1 is a good entry level 1911

Agreed. I would (and did) go with a Ruger SR1911, but the R1 is a very nice firearm as well. As far as fit and finish, I think the Ruger has a little bit over it, but that’s just me. If you’re hell-bent on spending $1000, just spend the $700-800 on the Ruger or R1, and spend another couple hundred on a nice aftermarket trigger assembly. Heck, you could probably even sell the old trigger assembly online…or better yet, use them to practice your OWN Gunsmithing!

Upper end 1911's and $1,000 are mutually exclusive terms. Top end 1911's are your Nighthawks,Wilsons and Les Baer's. My LGS hss a Nighthawk for $3725.00. Really, really nice gun but at that price I'm going for early Sig P210's or add to my Colt Snake line collection. An Anconda in 45LC is one of my grail guns. Got to find me one.

Been seeing them for between $875 and $1075 since the panic.

COLT pricing seems to be very area dependant. In my area (VA) I see new production COLT Govt's for under 1K all the time.

I paid $980 for my Combat Elite.

I paid $975 for my Gunsite Pistol.

I paid $730 for my Commander.

Keep an eye out and you'll find what you want.

I second the STI Trojan recommendation.

No doubt the STI Trojan is a fine weapon and should just barely fit into the $1,000 range, but the OP is looking for a

I'm pretty sure the Trojan frame is cast. I don't have anything against cast frames, but the OP is looking for a forged frame.

Quoted for fact. 1000 is the bottom of mid range too. High end is 5k or more.

That being said, I have a sig GSR1911 that I wouldnt give up for anything. It falls into that category. Also the Springfield Range Officer is under 1k and a fine 1911.

The Ruger has a cast frame. I think the Rem does as well but am not sure. I wouldn't let the cast vs forged thing bother you personally.

You could get a Springfield in that range.

I just bought a Talo Colt Concealed Carry like this Colt for $1025.

CJ1911 Heaven has a shot show special running on Baer Premier II. Like $1630.

My Springfield Armory Range Officer is one heck of a 1911 for the $800 I paid for it. Definitely worth a look. Good luck!

I'm not sure it will be under $1,000, should be close, but I'm extrmely impressed with the S&W 1911's. They are often overlooked and some don't like he external etractor, but they are a lot of gun for the money. I also own Colt and Kimber. Have had a SA Loaded in the past. I'd easily take the Smith over any of those.
