Greetings to everyone, a new member here, looking for info on Denver gun laws.

I've been unsuccessfully trying to get clarification on Denver Metro AWB, so maybe folks here can help out.

I currently live in Arizona, a novice shooter, a proud owner of a brand new Colt AR6250 and a S&W M&P40. A CCW permit is on it's way (hopefully)to my mailbox from DPS.

I'm planning to move to Colorado some time this year, but the issue now will my weapons be illegal in Denver metro? Can I carry concealed (with a permit) in Denver? How about AR15 possession at home/vehicle?

I know state of Colorado is gun-friendly, unlike Denver municipality which has some restrictive gun laws.I was considering also Denver suburbs, like Thornton, Arvada, Lafoyette, etc., but I read somewhere that it's quite restrictive there as well.

If anyone can help out, I'd really appreciate it.

Sorry to hear your leaving Arizona. Compared to Arizona, Colorado is nothing like this state with regard to guns. I've never lived in a state that requires a carry permit, doesn't allow you to carry open, or dictates what municipalities you can carry in. In my opinion, that state is very restrictive compared to Az..
Good luck!

The further away from Denver the better. I live in Longmont (boulder county) and things are fine here. Saw someone open carry in Walmart a few weeks ago. The Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith is a great advocate for our rights (look him up on FB)! If I ever move I'm moving to Larimer!

When I lived in Denver the state laws trumped local laws. State laws were very good allowing carry everywhere except government buildings and schools. Open carry was legal bit generally frowned upon. Laws may have changed since I moved a few years ago though.

as long as you are not in Denver city proper there is no issue at all. for now. Besides, do you really want DeGette as your rep?

conceal carry: NO signs do not have force of law. Shall issue. Again Denver proper only takes applications on the 5th Tuesday on each month so avoid living there.

Welcome to THR and Colorado!

We can use all the pro 2A types we can get. I don't know too much about the specifics of carry law in Denver but west of I-25 things seem fairly relaxed.

Here is a link for the state assembly I found useful:

Be sure to contact your state reps early and often. The opinion of the Denver metro area impacts the whole state.

So can a Colorado CCW carry conceal in Denver or does Denver law trump the state law i this regard?

Did you bother to read the Denver code I posted?

http://library.municode.com/HTML/10...MIPR_ARTIVOFAGPUORSA_DIV2WEMI_S38-117DADEWERO

Sec. 38-117. - Dangerous or deadly weapons—Prohibitions.

(f) It shall not be an offense under 38-117(a) or 38-117(b) if:

(1) The person, at the time of carrying the concealed weapon, holds a valid written permit to carry a concealed weapon issued pursuant to section 18-12-105.1, C.R.S., prior to its repeal, or, if the weapon involved was a handgun, holds a valid permit or a temporary emergency permit to carry a concealed handgun issued pursuant to state law and is otherwise carrying the handgun in conformance with any applicable state or local law; or

(2) The person is carrying the weapon concealed within a private automobile or other private means of conveyance, for hunting or for lawful protection of such person's or another person's person or property, while travelling, and the weapon is not an explosive device, incendiary device, or a bomb. If the weapon is a firearm being transported for hunting, it shall be unloaded while being carried within the private automobile or other private means of conveyance.

well heck, what are the Denver restrictions? seems if you have a valid permit on your person you can go about your business in Denver without fear from the government...

I think there is an assault weapons ban in Denver, and no open carry. Open carry is legal in the rest of the state without any permit required.

Ok, so no ak-47s for residents of denver and no open carry of any kind. Got it.

When i hit the lotto i will move to a suburb there of instead....or maybe aspen.

If you use the Denver Municipal Code link above and go to the Misc section (26 or 27 IIRC) you will find the assault rifle ban section. It basically defines an assault rifle as any Center Fire semi-automatic rifle with a magazine holding more than 20 rounds. The paragraphs that are reserved are hold-overs from an earlier ordinance where they listed specific models of rifles that were banned.

:confused: you think you can find a cheaper house or cost of living in Denver than in anywhere north of Denver?
