People are panic buying, not making rational decisions. Also, gun cleaning supplies will never be outlawed.

You'll find many folks prefer the idea of owning guns to actually shooting them and like the idea of cleaning them even less.

Yep. I know a number of guys who won't go shooting with me because they don't want to deplete their stocks. They were like this before the latest craze.

There is evidence to support than a large number of the guns purchases are by existing owners.

But the biggest reason... no one has posted on the internet that they are coming for the patches and solvent.

If all these crazy people stocking up on everything right were required to take a basic marksmanship class, learn to field strip their weapon and essentially learn to use their weapon effectively, they would not buy one.

I know a number of guys who won't go shooting with me because the don't want to deplete their stocks.

Me too! To the point of no one wants to go. I know we slow down a bit in the winter, but I'm even wondering why I stocked up! Next Friday I'm going alone if no one wants to come to the range with me.

No run on safes, cases, holsters, etc. Just thangs that bangs!

lots of first time gun buyers as well ... many of them no nada about guns and therefore do not care about cleaning supplies and safe storage. but to be fair: the can of CLP and the few brushes, rags, Hoppes #9 and so on... they last a long time.

I would expect a run on gun safes if some federal requirement (unlikely) or state requirement (more likely) would come down, forcing owners to store in a safe.

RKBA based on taking a class? sorry not buying it, free people should be free to buy what they want when they want. I wouldn't overlook JIT and other modern retail pratices as blame for shortages.

I think you seriously overestimate how much cleaning the average shooter does on their guns. I know people who have owned guns and hunted with them heavily and about as much "cleaning" as they ever get is if they get rained on and rust they'll wipe them off with WD-40. And honestly, most of them work fine that way. The cleaning "ritual" that many go through is a hold-over from the days of black powder guns and isn't all that necessary on a modern firearm.

A lot of people are buying what they are afraid will be banned, I know guys who have put off buying scopes, bolt rifles etc. to buy AR stuff. They plan on going back and getting the other stuff at a later date.

People are hoarding, not shooting. This is all driven by expectations of future unavailability.

And for some a hold over from military training. Talk about obsessive about cleaning.

With that line of thinking, a driving class should be required to buy a car (Instead of a license to drive it) or how about training classes for proper maintenance before someone can buy a house?

This week checked my spare parts box. Two factory and one titanium powerncustom 10/22 firing pins. Two factory trigger assemblies but no custom. 2 factory barrels but no customs. I bought 3 powercustoms titanium firing pins, one complete custom trigger assembly, 3 extended magazine releases, spare stock and a match carbon fiber barrel. For AR's did about the same and then for M1a's. I already had fair stock of extra parts but a few at old prices could not hurt. Always kept plenty o parts for 1911's, FN's, etc. I have enough parts I could build complete gun in 10/22, AR, FN, M1a and more. From stocks to springs. I bought everything in town for repairing high cap mags. Followers, floor plates,.springs and so on. Had to buy a second big tackle box just to sort parts into. Banning repair parts to keep folks from building kits or fixing broke guns would really put a hex on the whole darn thing. As long as parts prices hold, I am going to stack them up. Goal is enough parts to rebuild every black gun of mine completely over or just build extras from parts.

I own fewer cleaning kits than I do firearms. Some guns, such as rimfires, just don't get cleaned after every shooting session. Others can share a single cleaning kit.

I don't own any guns I don't shoot.

Maybe the newbies are using their dishwashers or clothes washers and driers

Hopefully gold prices will dip soon...

The rest of us own Mosins.

Also, it's not like gun cleaning supplies are the only materials required to clean a gun. Windex and boiling water do wonders.

My guess would be the n00bs didn't think about it (listen up, gun store employees. You're missing sales!) and most of us already have gear. I live in Kalifornistan & have to wait 10 days to pick up a gun. Most of us spend those 10 days buying accessories.

They are buying with slim intentions of shooting any time soon.

I have a relative that has purchased over 30 guns in the last year without shooting a single one. He probably won't. That's his deal.

Simple, I have a few thousand rounds of ammo several rifles, and a couple handguns, but only 1 cleaning kit, 1 bottle of Rem oil, and a bottle of hoppes. The demand per user is maybe 1-3, but people have a few to hundreds of boxes of ammo per firearm.
