New to all this, have crept around on here for months(alot of reading) over christmas finally got my first BP rifle! I have a family friend showing me the ropes and we got this for a steal($75 with some supplies too), bore looks good, little pitting near the nipple, but he thought it would be a good starter. Havent shot it yet we'll be doing that when it starts to warm up (Kline /friendship). Still accumulating all the stuff i need for it, i did remove and blacken the brass.
I see alot of beautiful firearms on here thought i share my pictures.

Double set triggers... Cool! That can make a muzzleloader extemely accurate and fun to shoot. Nice looking gun. You should see if the screw thats in your bolster under the nipple is serviceable... there are times you'll miss it if not... :)

thanks and yes that is on my order of things to attend to... wonder if they lost the screw and used what they had that fit? stripped the original, dunno. Assuming she shoots alright id like to eventually get more basic/primitive sights for it... or like my friend said, just buy another one, then another, etc.:D

Think there is something on this forum on screw size for the drum.
I replaced one for a friend but had the old one to match 5mm.x??. Wanted slotted head in stainless. Had to settle for hex but spun it in drill press and filed to round, cut slot then and torched it and dropped it in oil.

I've heard of folks replacing the bolster screw with metric allen head bolts from some place like true value or ACE and that would probably be the route I'd venture. I'd call CVA ask the threads. You can retap easy enough too... unless... :)

At one time, if you sent them the barrel, they'd replace the Bolster for you... yeah I know... :) but they wouldn't let you do the deed yourself.. indexing or something they said about the angle of the nipple to the hammer...

Look into a tang sight if you're thinking about change might be nice too.

CVA no longer supports these guns (haven't for many years); they won't be able to help.

Call Deer Creek Products (765) 525-6181. They bought up all the old CVA parts. They don't have a web site.
 
Welcome to the dark side. That drum screw looks to be an allen head. Nothing wrong with that except that it's better than the original screw. If you do get it out make sure you use anti-seize on it.
Good to hear from a local boy. I was raised in Loveland and now live outside of Goshen.

thanks guys! i contacted CVA to see if they had anyway to find the age of the rifle, i knew they had long since quit making traditional rifles, they werent able to provide any info... i did get the owners pamphlet with the rifle, which is pretty neat, also a box of roundball, adjustable powder measure, short starter, some pyrodex, a bag of lubed patches and a few other things. Still working on getting the rest of the things i need to shoot.
Pancho: Thanks, i was raised out in Indiana, near Lawrenceburg, Live in North College Hill (Cincy) now, hope to move back out to a more rural locale in the future.
