I succumbed to the Panic - Bought a case of .38 Special Just Because I Still Could

Hey, if you're almost out and you need some .38, 500 rounds at one purchase isn't crazy.

Not crazy at all. Right now if you can find ammo (38, 45 or 223) in the .35 - .40 per round I wouldn't fault you for buy some extra.

1 Case - Speer Lawman 45acp 230-gr. FMC = 169.90

That works out to 16.99 a box. I bought 2 cases. But that was last year. Wish I had bought 5 cases at THAT price.

cheapest I have seen in the past few weeks was .45/round from ammoman, that was back in the good old days when he had some inventory. ~ 2 weeks ago.

Wonder how long till I start buying ammo I don't need, and having to use it as currency?

I have 1000 rds of .38 on hand. One 38, one 357 and one Marlin 1894c in 357 can eat it right up. Sadly I am not doing any shooting these days except some 22lr just for the smell.

I hope you own a .38.

I'd buy it, if I didn't still have about 300 left of the last 500 I bought. Is it loaded on good brass?

Panic buying is when you pay inflated prices because you're afraid it wont be available in the future. At least that's how I define it.

thanks! I only do Blazers in .22... I like Remington and Starline for the centerfire brass.

Save your brass people. Even if you don't reload, just keep it in a bucket somewhere.

I cringe every time some guy at the range dumps his empty cases in the trash can. At least drop it on the floor or something.

I dont consider buying 500 rounds anywhere near the word panic buying.
As another poster noted and I agree panic buying is paying out the nose for ammo that should cost around half that amount.
Like I did in 2009 as I paid $28-$30 for a box of 50 rounds of .380 Auto.
After it and other calibers of ammo came down to earth in price I started buying in bulk online.
I am very well stocked and intend on being so.

Also most cases of pistol ammo are 20 boxes of 50 round count(1000 rounds) cartridges unless it's hollow points and they are usually 10 boxes to a case.
Just saying for clarity.

A single case is not such a big deal. But I have some misgivings if the purchase was at Walmart when there was probably another guy minutes away from hitting the sporting goods area with the intention of buying some 38spl. ammo.

On the other hand, I have purchased ammo at one Walmart and the lady there suggested I buy it all simply so she doesn't have to open the cabinet again.

If you need .38 then it's a good buy for sure. Half a case isn't really that much. Keep your brass.

I don't think 500 rounds of .38 Special at that price is panic buying. Just a good deal at what is still a decent price. I would have probably done the same thing if I needed additional quantities in that caliber. It's a sure bet it's not going to be any cheaper or maybe even available again anytime in the near future.

Really? 10 boxes is that big a deal? I've gone through that much in one range trip when several of us get together and go for the afternoon.
