I'm thinking about purchasing a new firearm that has ammo readily available.

I consistently see 22mag, 17hmr, 380 on the shelves.

What other calibers are you seeing left on shelves?

While 380 is pricier, I'm seeing it everywhere.

In addition to those menitoned by the OP, .243, .22-250, 7mm, 30.06, 32acp, 25acp, 30-30 and .410.

Almost forgot, .177 for my pellet rifle. :neener:

The local Bass Pro Shops is fully stocked on just about all shotgun ammo.

Like you I also see 17 HMR, 22 mag. Big bore stuff like 44 mag, 45 colt, 41 mag, 10mm is available.

Premium ammo like personal defense loads in the 25 round boxes are still available in 45.

Im thinking it might be time to get into skeet or trap shooting lol. Spring is right around the corner.

I'm not seeing any 22lr, 380, 38 special, 357 mag, 40 s&w, 9mm, 45acp, 30-30, 12 gauge slugs and buckshot, 223, 308, or '06.

I am seeing 22-250, 243, 7mm mag, 45-70, 8mm mauser, even 303 brit. Oh and 22 mag and 17 hmr.`

Oh and I'm still finding 12 gauge birdshot.

I saw some .17HMR, some .22 short, 12 gauge slugs and bird shot, 20 gauge slugs and bird shot, pretty much everything in .410, .243, .270, .30-30, .30-06, .44 magnum.

The only .223 I've seen on the shelves is the Hornady Z-Max. So far no one has been desperate enough to spend $26.95 for 20 rounds. Even the 40 round WWB for $30 has all been purchased.

Some of my more mom & pop gun shops have some 9mm, some 7.62x39 and occasionally a bulk box of .22lr.

The only thing that my LGS had a good variety of was 30-06.

There is still some reloadable Prvi .303 "British".
My 10-box batch finally arrived after over two weeks.

You might know this, but "Ammoseek" is missing some updates, and not all prices are as high as the lowest prices on the list.
Maybe some buyers don't want to publish the best deals on ammo search engines.:scrutiny:

What ammo is most available?

.223, 9mm, 7.62x39, 5.7x28, and 45ACP last I checked. Why, did something bad happen? ;)

Went to Cabela's in KC today and the shelves were bare!

They only had the following:
7.62x39 (plenty to go round)
7.62x54R
7.62 Nagant
7.5 Swiss
8mm Mauser

But isn't retail ammo priced as high as gun shows?
If so, that could explain availability.

I forced myself not to smirk/ laugh at the show's ammo prices a week ago. The only way it worked was to quickly leave.

Trip to my closest walmart today [47 miles one way] to pick up some supplies. Gun counter was quiet, just me and the clerk. Surprise!!! They had an AR on the rack for sale. Ammo shelves were bare. Zero 22lr and just a few boxes of whatever. Bunch of shot in most hunting sizes. Wasn't in the market so I didn't pay too much attention to the big stuff but they did have a few boxes of 30-06, 308, just the usual stuff but not a lot of it. I'd say that 50-60% of the shelf space was empty.

The AR was priced at $975.

Topeka, KS

Plenty of .17 hmr, .17 mach2, .30/06, .243, 7 mag, 12 and 20 ga, .45/70, .300 win mag, .270, .38 spl, .357mag , .44 mag, 30/30 win, .35 rem, .45lc

All of which I saw today.

However no .22lr dang it.

What I've seen today is 22WMR, 17HMR, plenty of 38spl and some supply of 45acp. In rifle calibers, my beloved 6.5x55, and every other non tactical, uncommon caliber. Found a supply of primers, powder and a limited supply of bullets. The premium bullets are pretty available.

As I suspected, from the posts above and my own experience, the shortages differ from store to store.

The exception being 9mm, 556/223 and 22lr.

12 gauge Fiocchi buck/slugs from Midway.

I went looking for something, anything I shoot that was in stock at old pricing. That was what I found. And all that I found.

I got a 440 round tin of 7.62X54R for $125 at a gun show two weeks ago and an ammo can full of Federal 00 buckshot (7 boxes) at the Boise Cabelas for $120 plus tax last week. Cabelas had lots of ammo on the shelves. .40 S&W, aluminum case 9MM, lots of birdshot, lots of Rio brand buckshot, 7.62X39. Almost no .223.

The retail stores around here have plenty of:

.410, 20 Gauge, and a decent variety of 12 Gauge
.243
.270
30.06
.22 Short
.22 Magnum

These calibers are hit/miss, but can be found:

.22LR (can't be picky, but I've seen some)
.380 ACP (not a lot of selection, but it's stacked deep)
.38 Special
.40 S&W (Zombie Max only)

Good luck if you're trying to find:

.17 HMR (I wonder if this is just local?)
9mm (long gone)
.357 Magnum (long gone)
.45 ACP (long gone)
.223 Rem (long gone)
