I don't live in California. I'm in Missouri.

I've looked and can't find any info specific to this being illegal in my state, but can't find anything specific under federal law.

Is it okay to purchase two handguns from ffl dealers in my home state within 30 days? Two separate nics checks. One was early january 2013 and the second may be this week.

Found a good deal at an lgs.

Thanks.

Absolutely legal. Very few states have a "one gun a month" law. And no federal law at all comes close to mandating such a thing.

multiple handgun purchase form 3310 / 5 business days required between purchases or the National Tracing Center gets a fax from the FFL dealer.. no big deal really, but some customers are uncomfortable with the idea

There's no additional paperwork for the buyer...there is additional paperwork for the FFL holder if you purchase two or more pistols in a 5 day period.

I know since I've bought multiple pistols at one dealer at a time. If you buy multiple pistols from multiple FFL holders there is no additional paperwork.

Yes, the 3310 form has serial numbers. What the ATF does with the form 3310 is probably up for debate but its supposed to be used when a firearm is used in a crime. The problem here is you may have sold one of the firearms so the last record in their database will be you so you have to prove you are no longer in possession.

The 5 day provision can realistically only be enforced by a single FFL so going to another dealer within that 5 days will not trigger the FFL to fill out this form.

I buy 4-5 a month and the only time there was extra paperwork is when I bought two from the same place 2 days apart.

I've bought 2 in a single day... twice I think... and I don't remember there being any additional paperwork.

Sure. I purchased a S&W 1911ct for myself and a 686 .357 for my wife at the same time last summer and walked out the door with both of them (after a BG check of course)

In California we can actually "buy" as many new handguns as we want. We can only "DROS" 1 every 30 days. PPT are not affected. Some guys have had a bunch lined up, I've only had a couple.

Not sure if its national (?) but in TX if you do buy multiple guns from the same FFL. A form goes to the ATF and a form goes to the local sheriff. That is filled out by the FFL.

Aha, then I wouldn't have known any different.

My LGS told me if I bought more than one gun the ATF would get a special card about my purchase for mulitpile firearms.

I said "Yeah, So what?"

Bought 3 handguns on the same day using a school address. Got visited by a few agents from the ATF a bit later. Nothing illegal about it just looked odd for them. They really blushed when I told them they were commemorative pistols and if they wanted to see pictures.

I think I'd just wait 5 days or go through another FFL for the second one to avoid reporting of the serial numbers.
