It was a bad Sunday for sponsors of an meeting to create a grassroots chapter of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence at the Glenview, IL Police Station Auditorium failed miserably as supporters of the Constitution and civil rights took part in the event.

In the end, unsubstantiated assertions by the gun control advocates were challenged by a boisterous audience.

The local newspaper had this to say:

Gun Ownership Advocates Intentionally Pack Panel

(Glenview Patch) – Gun ownership advocates intentionally packed Sunday’s gun control panel by the New Trier Democrats, as pro-gun advocates — who were encouraged to come from across the state in a mass email from the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) — argued and yelled at panelists throughout the program.

“Remember, this is our Lexington, this is our Concord,” the email read. “Be prepared to teach the gun controllers a lesson in liberty.”

The email also encouraged attendees to arrive between an hour and half an hour early, to “ensure that there are more of OUR people there than THEIR people,” according to the email. That resulted in venue at the Glenview Police Station auditorium filling up, with many would-be attendees turned away at the door.

The majority of the crowd — around 2/3 — were wearing NRA and ISRA paraphernalia, and holding American flags and signs, such as “Shall not be infringed” and “Pro-second amendment.”

While all of the speakers faced outrage and yelling from the crowd — with many being called a “liar” or “loser” as they spoke — none seemed to anger the crowd as much as Lee Goodman, of the Stop Concealed Carry Coalition.

Goodman, who was booed as he came to the podium, started out on the wrong foot with the audience, commenting, “[The Illinois State Rifle Association] email said to dress nicely and be polite — and I’d like to say that you’re all dressed nicely.”

But the boots on the ground told a more interesting story of what happened. Steven Zahareas posted the following on ISRA’s Facebook page:

Excellent! And from the sounds of it (granted, the article is biased in our favor), they weren't just be raucus...they were calling out lies.

Wonder if anyone made the comment that by anti-stats everyone in the forum should have been dead based on the number of guns present.

FTA: Goodman said, "The Second Amendment is of no importance today."

Sounds like a traitor to me.

I'm very glad that there were enough people willing to stand up in this instance though, slowly we're breaking our couch potato ways. :)

Well stacking the audience helped obama in the 2012 election. Turn about is fair play.

Wonderful.
Slowly but surely a lot of wrath by ordinary and law abiding people is coming to bear upon those so trying to villify us.

Skribs, there were no guns present, except for the local cops.

Illinois has no CCW so we were all disarmed and despite descriptions to the contrary we were all pretty well behaved and polite.

But when they started to "make stuff up" (e.g. lie through their teeth) and treat it like it was fact, the crowd was heard from repeatedly.

Sorry, thought that was struck down by the supreme court. I'm glad I live in WA.

Well, this was a great news story to read! Thank you for posting the link to it - I am now going to stop reading any more news tonight so that at least today, I can go to sleep in a good mood!

The GOP did the same thing for the Republican National Convention in Tampa. Many "liberty republicans" from states like Maine, Iowa, Nevada, we're stripped of their credentials and replaced by Romney Republicans.

The ban on CCW has been struck down, there just isnt a law on the books allowing it yet.

Unless Illinois is different you don't need a law allowing you to do something. Just as long as there isn't a law against it.

Sad. The (establishment) fix was in (of course).

The courts decision struck down the law as unconstitutional, however they also gave a 180 day stay on the abolishment to allow the state legislature to make a law. If they dont at the end of the 180 days we will have constitutional carry.
