UPS Refused to Ship My Gun Barrel

A couple weeks ago I shipped a lower to my son's FFL, no problem from the local UPS hub, but no independent "storefront" UPS Store would touch it.

I'm waiting to see if UPS responds to my email. It could have simply been that the woman misinterpreted something, but I want an official statement from the company since it was a hub and not some type of franchise. With all of the attacks being made on us law-abiding gun owners, I'm really starting to get a short fuse with the antis and their mostly ill-informed logic; often not based on fact but fear.

I've had nothing but trouble from UPS Stores in the area. The main hub will ship and is relatively close by, but I usually just use USPS for long guns or parts.

No one seems to like the U.S. Postal Service, but they've always been a breeze to work with compared to the private couriers, at least IME.

Sorry to hear it though; shipping problems on top of firearm problems needing warranty work, sounds like my life!

One stupid employee does not mean the whole company is behind her....

You can ship firearms, accessories and ammo through UPS no problem. The problem is this persons political agenda.

I am with the "machined parts" description. It is not like you are doing anything illegal.

Had a gun shop tell me to ship a gun USPS as machine parts.... I just smiled and said, no thanks, regardless if it happens frequently.

Many years ago UPS refused to ship ammo I sold on Gunbroker (Winchester Black Talons). I then rewrote that they were in the description as "brass trinkets" and they were shipped. I always thought it was weird that they'd deliver ammo to my front door but would not let me ship them.

"machined parts" is what I always use. The less they know the better. If its something valuable, take out insurance on it. Both FedEx and UPS have stated loss rates of something like 0.1% of packages-of which many end up laying on the ground opened outside of a shipping hub.

People who don't believe that our 2nd amendment rights are being attacked are living in la la land. Case in point, the OP's story.

A company refusing to ship a barrel without information is not infringing upon the right to keep and bear arms.

And why did you even tell the nosy old biddy what was in the box in the first place? None of her business. If she asks, tell her "marital aids".

Shippers have the right to know what they are shipping. If the shipper covers the value of an item in shipment, they have a right to know what they are insuring.

Agreed on USPS. I have better pricing and more reliable delivery through them. UPS is second, but they are a bit more money. I am not well versed in all the ins and outs of their various shipping policies for firearms, but I've had good luck with USPS.

I work with a gaggle of libs and any time the current situation involving guns comes up, I'm routinely told I'm overreacting or being paranoid. Every journey begins with a single step. This whole damn mania against gun culture not only pisses me off, but has me very concerned. I know many here feel the same. This crap has got to stop. "

This is an extremely important point. 90% of what people 'know' about the world outside of their own personal experience, comes from the media. That mainstream media is trying to paint the picture that guns and everything associated with them are 'bad'. Now most people who have a knee jerk response against guns, have no experience or knowledge with them. The media provides a few sound bites, and peoples imagination fills in all the 'horrible details'.
The media won't present a well reasoned and balanced viewpoint, for the most part. IMO Thats why its extremely important for each of us to take responsibility for taking people out to the range and creating positive experiences with guns and the people who use them. People see that the picture drawn for them which they added to in their own minds, isn't the way it really is. There's no media defense against that.

By the way - - I never use the term 'gun culture'. That puts it in the same category as a fad or hobby group. Those things come & go, and are subject to 'reform' (that is, propaganda lead 're-education'). Liberty, individual responsibility, and free choice arent just a fad.
Our liberties are being attack in many areas, not just the 2A. We are being tested as to what we'll go along with.

I have always labeled mine as "machine" or "motor" parts,
But I think I will use E. Prices description from now on,

"" marital aids "" that should kill any conversation they attempted to start !!

I would have told her it was "curtain rods". Worked for Oswald.

And yes, use the U.S. Post Office next time. They need the money. I have mailed lots of gun stuff and several muzzle loaders through them. Always fast and so far nothing damaged.

I had a similar experience with the USPS. When asked what I was shipping, I said it was barrels from a shotgun. The clerk slammed the window closed and dived behind the counter. A supervisor came out and told me I couldn't use the USPS for that. Rather than explain why he was an idiot and wrong, I went to another PO, said it was steel tubing being sent for custom machine work, and off it went. That was exactly what it was. Remember that this is the "New America" now, land of the stupid and home of the wussie. It's best to tailor your words so as not to frighten the sheeple.

I just shipped a AK yesterday through FedEx, and when asked told them machine parts. But from now on I will use marital aids.

That's a good one.
