Texas to soon allow open carry. Maybe.

I guess I'm just a pessimist but I don't think it will pass.

I'd like to see it. I probably wouldn't OC much, but I still want the choice.

I have a lot of admiration for the Lone Star State and if my heart wasn't set on Arizona Texas would be my next choice.

Let's hope things go your way.
The political noises I'm hearing from that way makes me really hopeful it'll pass if only to thumb their noses at Washington.

I've had my hopes dashed before.

It has been introduced in several Legislative sessions, but never comes up for a vote.
As long as we are stuck with RINO Joe Strauss as Speaker of the House, it will never happen.

I would like to but its better to have it hidden so no one knows you are armed and dangerous.

Wait, so my state of North Carolina allows open carry while Texas currently does not? Woah, that's hard to wrap my mind around.

An Open Carry bill (as well as a campus carry bill) are introduced almost every year in the Texas state legislature, but go nowhere. This year may be different; while gun control measures that usually go nowhere in eastern states are suddenly gaining traction post-Sandy Hook, conversely I think pro-gun measures in Texas and other midwestern states are going to gain traction.

That said, I am not exactly a proponent of open carry, and don't ever plan to even if legal, but we should have the option.

Hey, never say "Never", guys. I never thought I would live to see the day "Shall-Issue" concealed-carry permits would be legal in Texas either, but it finally happened. For many years Texas had some of the strictest handgun laws in the country. It was practically forbidden to carry a handgun anywhere except in the field, while hunting. And carrying a loaded handgun in your car, especially concealed, was a serious no-no.

But times have changed for the better and maybe this time "open-carry" will make it through. I'm like a lot of people, I probably won't carry openly, but I would like for the option to be available.

Oh I hope this one passes. Not so much because I want to open carry, but because I don't want to worry about it being 100% concealed 100% of the time...

Same boat. doubtful I would go open, other than the hunting I do now. However, I got lots of nice leather I would like to let see some daylight once in a while.

Yeah, I find it surprising every time I hear it that TEXAS dosn't allow OC. Guess one more reason why stereotypes r bad huh? Fl tried it awhile back and it got knocked down to protection against prosecution for "brief inadvertant exposure".

exactly this!

I just detest CCW. The weapons are all too small, underpowered, and/or limited capacity for concealment. All I can carry comfortably is 380ACP. I have yet to find a pocket 9 I care for.

Give my OC. Big honkin 45 ACP with 3 each 8-round spare mags. That right there is a decent defense rig with tremendous deterent.

Hhmmm....I thought there were very good reasons for concealed carry, and I believe that those reasons had nothing to do with convenience. Open carry is certainly more convenient, but it does nothing to supplant the reasons/rationale for concealed carry. Each to their own though.--Patrice

It will be interesting to see this time how it goes.
But some here believe most people dont notice when someone around here is open carrying and I will relate something that happened yesterday.
I was standing in line at a Pappa's BBQ place to order lunch and a two guys ahead of me were open carrying because they were plain clothes Harris County Sherrifs Officers as I saw one's badge pinned on his holster and the other guy was a lefty and had his credentials hanging by a lanyard from his neck.
Two women were behind me and due to certain body positioning one woman saw the lefty's pistol, which I think was a Glock 26/27 and I suddenly heard her say to her friend in a low tone of "My God that man has a GUN!!"..I turned and told them they were police officers.
She was pretty freaked out to say the least.
What was truely funny is my LCP was out of sight in my right front pocket and she didn't have a clue about that.
I am of the opinion one reason we dont have OC here in Texas is that things of this nature scare people who are not involved with firearms in their daily lives and it probably makes business people nervous as well.
Just my opinion.

In the city. firearms are pretty taboo, and open carry would cause a panic to be honest.
But in small towns that I've vited and anywhere in the Texas Hill country were guns are a part of life, no one has a problem with them.

Maybe I oughtta move back to Kerrville.........

I had to chuckle at this because a "big honkin .45" is exactly what I conceal carry every day. Although I only have 2 spare mags not 3. I also agree with the other posters in that I wouldn't necessarily OC very often but it would be nice to have the option.

Don't hold your breath. Overt support does not mean that the Gov. and Lt. Gov will really push for it.

The campus carry debacle of last session says it all. Lots of posture and no results.
