9mm lever action, why not?

Because other handgun cartridges do everything the 9mm does in size but they offer loads with much larger bullets and higher velocity. Lever action carbines are meant for hunting or self defense in the woods. Would you count on a 9mm to stop any animal besides a snake that is a threat to you? Many people use lever action carbines for hunting. Many states have laws limiting the capacity of a rifle. So 25 9mm rounds just would get you a big fat ticket.

Also, the 9 is too pointy for a tube magazine.

And guns like the Just Right Carbine cost as much as a lever action 9mm would cost, use Glock mags, take AR15 parts, are semiauto and more ergonomic.

I have a .357 Rossi Puma (clone of the Winchester 1892) that feeds and fires all .38 Spl and .357 Magnum ammunition I have tried except wadcutters, which I can single load direct in the firing chamber should I want to use wad cutters to stalk rabbits.

Even though I suspect that 9mm offers a range of ammo (military surplus for cheap target practice, bullet weights ranging from 110 to 147 gr, bullet styles FMJ, JHP, power levels from mild "Luger" loads to +P), the .38 Spl and .357 mag offer more variety.

On the other hand, owners of a 9mm handgun might be attracted to a carbine for the same round.

From what I have heard about the 9mm Marlin Camp Carbine and the 9mm Hi Point Planet of the Apes carbine, the increase in velocity for 9mm pistol rounds in a carbine is only about 100 ft per second.

Increase in velocity for a .357 magum round in carbine length barrel can be on the order of 400 to 500 ft per second. A great increase in impact or kinetic energy. Which I found out by firing my carbine at a swinging plate that had been taking rounds from pistols leaving just lead smears: .357 for a carbine, the plate was bein dented and I stopped after three rounds.

(FMJ in a tube magazine would require the spiral system used in the old .30 remington pump action to offset the noses from the primer of the cartridge in front. Or one could go to a box magazine like the Savage 99, Marlin Levermatic or Ruger leveraction designs.)

Probably the same reason the 45 ACP is not offered in a lever action rifle, not a lot of demand. Both are rimless but can be made to work in a lever action. As for spiral mag tubes...how much recoil do you think a 9mm fired in a 5-6 pound firearm is going to generate? I do believe there are a couple of gunsmiths who have made lever action 45 ACP rifles. I recall C.E. Harris had one built. I would imagine they could do the same in 9mm.

The only advantage would be more rounds in the tube and cheaper ammo, I guess. I like mine with .38Special or .357Magnum.

Was also chambered in the .256 Win. Mag., which is a .357 Mag. necked down to a .257..............

I think one could be made using Uzi or Sten mags. Then it wouldnt be one of those nasty assault semi auto rifles. A pump would also be nice. If a semi auto ban comes out we may see this. In England I heard the BLR in .223 was popular converted to an M16 mag.
