About an hour before the Des Moines gun show opened Friday evening, a dealer racks his personal carry .25 caliber pistol and inadvertently shoots himself in the hand. Few there realized what had happened, sounded like a folding chair hit the floor. Idiot vendor was thrown out and banned. Fortunately no else was injured.....but a lot of dealers were ready to tear the guy a new one.

Within minutes the local TV station heard the news on police scanner, showed up with cameras and reporter to report cover the incident.

While there the TV reporter did interviews with locals about the AWB being proposed......see link below.

Color me cynical; I didn't know such a non-event was newsworthy.

If we're going to have reporters respond to every "idiot hurt himself" instance, we're gonna need more channels........
 
what I got from this was....
.25cal hand guns aren't very effective against hands.

LOL, very true.

This is probably the 5th or 6th ND incident at a gun show this winter, compared to maybe 1 or 2 in the last 5 or 6 years. I don't blame the other dealers for being really pissed. All these NDs are giving us a bad name.

Considering the local TV station showed up, it reminds me of a few years back when shark bites were the thing to cover. Even though that year wasn't any different from any other year statistically, all you saw in the media was shark bites. I really wish there was just one news source you could trust (no, fox news doesn't count).
 
I'll take this opportunity to explain that many .25 pistols (including some Colt's and Browning) have a striker/firing pin with a long nose. The purpose of these is to act as an ejector when ejecting fired cases. Extreme care needs to be taken when hand ejecting a loaded cartridge. If you own/carry/use a pistol of this description take note.
 
Another casualty of the gunshow irresponsible dealer this time. Who will be next ?
 
If you own/carry/use a .25 Colt, Browning, etc. pistol take note.

Well, my first thought was "who carries a .25 nowadays?" and my second was . . . OK, I don't have a second. Really, who carries a .25??? :D

I do. We have pack-dogs in the neighborhood and my Bauer S/S .25 that I bought for $85 in 1980 is my “Mowing-The-Lawn-Never-Feel-It‘s-There” pocket pistol. It has served me satisfactorily on two occasions.

As a retired LEO I have seen the aftermath of numerous 25 cal. ghetto shootings and I’ll take a pass on being shot by one.

I do not carry it when not attending the lawn. My “Don‘t-Leave-Home-Without-It-Pistol” is a 9x23 Combat Commander.

The Bauer is a Baby Browning clone, and as such has the "long nose" srtiker/firing pin that is also the ejector. Be very careful how you eject loaded cartridges, or carry with the chamber empty, safety off.

Never trust a skinny chef or a "gun dealer" that carries a .25.
 
Like 2@low8 I know of several incidents were someone who thought the little .25's were a joke, and found out the hard way that they aren't.

But the size and caliber of the pistol involved is not the issue. Careless handling and/or not understanding the pistol's design are. Hopefully everyone will remind themselves that when racking the slide on any pistol that has a loaded chamber should be done with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and not at any body parts of one's self or others.

I keed, I keed! That's why I put a :D there!

But, seriously, a dealer not having at least a small .380 does seem a little odd. Not that I'm going to volunteer to stand downrange of a .25 or anything.
