"Classic" Movie Guns (just a fun discussion)

won an auction yesterday for an S&W Model 13-1. I'd been eyeing a .357 for a while and I've enjoyed shooting my wife's Model 10-5, so I figured the beefed up twin brother would be a good choice. In my obligatory binge of excited reading about the gun I just acquired I found out that not only was the 13 the FBI issued gun for some time, but that it was the gun used by Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs, which is one of my favorite flicks of all time.

Do you own any firearms that also appear in a favorite film? Did you purchase them because of the film or find out after the fact? Is there a gun that you legitimately hope to own one day because of a favorite actor or movie?

Thus far I've never bought a particular gun because of a movie, character, or actor, although I have to admit that these (or the equivalent) have me intrigued:

While I've never owned one I was intrigued by the S&W model 29 Clint Eastwood used in the Dirty Harry movies. Maybe some day I'll get around to adding one to the safe.

Chuck Conner’s 1892 Winchester 44-40 used on “The Rifleman”.

Of course, it would be on Feinstein’s AWB since it can be hip-fired/sprayed and it holds more than 10 rounds.

We need a whole thread just based on the Rifleman's gun. Love that show and still watch it today. Always fascinated me if that was a viable way to shoot that gun. It had a set screw that would trip the trigger with the pull of the lever. Nice!

I have a Beretta Renegade which is based on the Winchester '73. I've always been a big fan of Western's and this is a fun gun to shoot.

My favorite movie would have to be Blade Runner.
The .357 COP Leon uses and Deckard's PDK would be the guns I want.
I know the PDK is half Charter Bulldog and Steyr-Mannlicher SL. Not real, but really cool looking. The .357 COP is real, but I don't know if I would want to shoot it.

As much as I like the show and westerns in general, in the vast majority of cases they're not very realistic or practical with regard to firearms and their use.

Anyway, I used to hanker for a S&W Model 29 like Dirty Harry's when I was younger, but the whole subject of practically renegade cops has gone sour on me over the years, even though characters like Dirty Harry were on the side of justice. The only such character I enjoy watching anymore is Sledge Hammer. :evil:

Sorry. "Combat!" was a childhood favorite and I have the series on DVD. Saunders' Thompson was not an M1 it was the 1928 version.
If you look carefully at your photo of Vic Morrow in character you will see his Tommygun has the Cutts Compensator. The M1 and later M1A1 variants lacked the Cutts. In fact some of the later 1928s lacked the Cutts as the Army transitioned to the M1 version.

Yes, I badly want a Walther PPK because I'm a huge James Bond fan. I already bought a Rolex Submariner because of this, now I just need the pistol. And maybe an attache case with tear gas, throwing knives, ammo and gold sovereigns in secret compartments

I also want a copy of each of the revolvers that Indiana Jones used, especially the Webley Green used in the later movies.

I also really have a thing for Victorian era British revolvers as a direct result of being a fan of the Sherlock Holmes books.

Vic Morrow's "Combat" M-1 Garand 30-06

Movie "Assassins" w/ Stallone [ now poster child for ANTI-GUNNERS ] Ruger.22 Mark II.

2 Kimber 1911's as the slabside was in SO many movies I wont bother to mention,including TV show "Magnum P.I.".

Colt S.A.A. .45 LC of course,too many westerns to name and mine is nickled w/ ivory grips.

To name a few.

It was only some years later when I learned that the Detonics was Sonny Crockett's back-up piece on "Miami Vice"...

Thanks for all the responses! It's lots of fun to read the input. I will echo a couple of you in saying that if I were to go shopping for a "movie gun" intentionally, it would likely be a Colt SAA. Maybe throw in some Hand of God grips... Course that will likely happen when I have money to burn, which won't be soon.

Also wanted to share the website that partially spurned my thread here, which was www.imfdb.org ...be cautioned, one could start on this site and return to consciousness hours later without even trying. Hope some of you enjoy it. You may even find out you have some more movie guns and didn't even know it.

If you'll take my word for it, you'll never want to shoot a COP. I fired one back in the early 1980's. I remember pulling the trigger from Monday to Thursday, and the the recoil was akin to getting kicked in the hand by a jack hammer.

Cool as they come, though.

When I watch "Miami Vice" and I still DVR it. I can't help but laugh at Croketts outfits, and the perception that he could possiblly hide, 5 pounds worth of guns in a satin blazer and tee shirt.
Good thing no "real UC cop", tried to get away with that setup. I remember guys carrying 3 and even 4 guns, stuffed in all sorts of places in N.Y., during winter, but "hot weather" and 2 1911's, is an impossible combination to hide the artillery of the 70's. Try and get that 45 out of an ankle holster and you may need a time out, and some Elephant Bell bottoms. "remember those"?

I have Harry Callahan's S&W Model-29 .44mag. I also have David Souls Colt Python. I've never been influencd to buy a gun because of a movie.
