Los Angeles sending letters to gun buyers

I would assume that because of the strict gun laws in California most of the legal gun owners know that in order to sell a gun they have to fill out the required paperwork. It kinda seems to me that this letter is the district attorney's way of letting you know "we know you have guns and we are waiting for you to mess up. When you do, this is what we are going to do to you."

So much for the alleged reports that the DROS and NICS are not defacto registration and that they are thrown away. Yeah right.

We know where you live. I think it is pretty much a waste of money to print and send these letters. The State is already experiencing severe monetary issues. Then they just waste more money.

Blatant intimidation.

I've just changed my mind about universal NICS. I was OK with it until now. Now I'm against it. You were all right, and I was wrong. NICS -> stealth registration.

Yet more unintended consequences. The recent hysteria that's supposed to make us safer just turned me against ANY magazine restrictions and now background checks. How many more moderates has it pushed away?

well said, Wooly. I think the intent here was to remind people of the mandatory safe storage act in California [trigger lock/safe, etc] and to warn people not to ''lie for the other guy'', about Straw Purchases.

Can't you see it... a group of police cars with heavy armed LEOs cruising down your street.... okay, 212 Walnut street.... check computer, okay he has 10 rifles and 10 handguns; some are ARs. Let' get them.... just dreaming, but it could actually be that way.

Well, about 12 more months and I will no longer be a captive of CA, especially Los Angeles County.

Already half way home to Idaho.

The second to the last paragraph is especially disturbing. Totally discounts the fact that a firearm could have been stolen. That's like holding a vehichle owner responsible for any death/damage caused by joyriding car thief.

Ramsey County Sherrifs Office in MN proved to me why I will never agree with mandatory background checks when they misused permit holder's data.

I left CA in 1992. I called the PD a few moths ago with a question and the officer I was speaking with suddenly blurted out "Wow! You have a BUNCH of guns!" He was able to access a record of my gun purchases even after 20 years away from the state. Don't know if he was aware of the guns I bought after leaving or only those I obtained while a CA resident.

Of course they know.

Thats creepy

Do we actually think that every time we fill out a 4473 and that phone call is made / computer key is stroked that there is no log or record of that transaction (despite what certain Federal laws say)? We're kidding ourselves if we think that UBCs will change anything - perhaps they will just make us more aware of how we're being tracked by BATF, and the criminals will continue to avoid them...

Why exactly is California still populated, btw?

PROOF that DROS and NCIS are not being used as claimed but rather for all the reasons we are against them. BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!

I saved a copy of that letter. I will be sending my own back to the return address. I have been told my family is blessed with the gift for writing. We'll see how this goes!

Except for the fact that CA has a registration as do some other states. Nothing to do with nics, etc.

Exactly how do I report a boating accident? It seems that it may be a good idea about now.

This is a perfect example why so many people are leaving CA, besides over taxation.

california has apparently started their own version of "registration" so that they know where to find the firearms when they decide its time to confiscate them.

A letter like that from Big Brother reminds me why I live in Arizona, and would never consider even visiting California - or New York for that matter.

CA has already confiscated registered guns in the 90's. Remember when they said the SKS was ok, but you had to register it?

After which, they decided it was NOT ok, so you had to get rid of it or turn it in. If you did not...
