Hello. I live in Michigan and I'm moving to Florida in a few days. I'm curious as to how I can move my 2 rifles and my handgun with me? I'll be driving and I don't plan on becoming a resident of Florida but rather just keep my Michigan residency. Am I allowed to bring my handgun to Florida with me and keep it or must I become a resident of Florida in order to have my handgun there? Thanks! Also, sorry if this is the wrong thread but I saw legal and figured "why not".

The way to transport the firearms that provides the most legal protection in all states is for the guns to be unloaded, with magazines unloaded as well, with the firearms and any ammunition in locked cases/containers in a compartment separate from the occupants of the vehicle. Once you get to Florida, apply for a non-resident carry permit/license.

If you're moving to Florida, there's a good chance that you'll be becoming a Florida resident under Florida law. You really need to look into this. In general, residence for legal purposes is determined by where we are actually living, especially for an extended period of time. And that could become an issue as far as things like taxes, car registration, diver's license, etc.

You can bring them to FL (long guns and Handguns)
You said you are Moving, also be working here? if that is true, I think the law is 60 days, you must get your driver license and tags. If you are just coming to visit no problems.

Unload mags and guns. Locked in trunk. Transport directly from old house to new house. No side tourist trip through NYC. If stopped by police and they ask to search the trunk, say "No".

You need to read the rules for residency for both florida and michigan. But that's a different issue.

If you are moving here to work, you'll want the FL residency - no state income tax, you'll need tags as mentioned. IIRC, it is 30 days, not 60, but I could be mistaken.

Thanks guys! But do I have to get my firearm registered right away when I get there or will they honor my michigan handgun registration until I receive my florida one? Thanks so much!

I tried to quote a few ppl but for some reason it was getting messed up. Oh well. THanks everybody for your help! I don't have a CWP so that shouldn't be a problem. DIdn't know there was no handgun registration in Florida.

You might find it somewhat amusing, but 'registration' or the keeping of any record of firearms other than required by the Fed's is a violation of Florida law, and there are severe sanctions imposed on any Gov't agency so doing..............including massive fines!

The law's preamble begins with the statement that such things are a"shopping list for thieves'!
