When I am transporting, storing, or paying for them, I want them to be smaller.
But when I am using them, I want them to be bigger.

Some guns I like to shoot:
1911 Colt
Colt New Service revolver
Colt SAA
Beretta 92
12 pound rifles with 40X scopes.

Guns I like to carry:
Kel-tec pistols
8.9 pound 270 including 2x7 scope, bipod, sling, rear bag, and ammo.

Boats I like to be in:
Great big fast boats with a head and radar

Boats I like to transports, store, and pay for
a row boat.

Guns are nothing like boats:

-The saddest day in gun ownership is buying and selling them
-Boats float
-Using guns is more fun than owning them

...uhh...that's all I got.

Both can be used for fishing :D

Okay, now I'm done

Something about Bust Out Another Thousand comes to mind...

How about, Got Unuff? Never!

I don't own a boat, but I've taken one to test depth.

I own guns, but I've never taken one to test pressure.

I have owned among other toys, several boats in the past. Notice past. If you want to spend money buy a 46 foot 1922 Chris Craft with a Lycoming V12 aircraft engine and dual 200 gallon saddle tanks.:D Yearly haul out and painting/varnish job cost as much as what is in one of my 24 gun safes with ease. Unless you are talking a fully functional Sherman or a P38 with armament then firearms collecting is a relatively inexpensive hobby---even if you collect class III stuff. Try maintaining a single prop Lake amphibian for example. To my way of thinking the firearms do not require a yearly PM and do not fall out of the sky or sink if they are left unused/neglected for a year or 10. Plus there is lots less insurance involved as well. Just my .02 from experience with expensive toys. YMMV :D

I have both... the one I can lift over my head and carry to the water gets used regularly. The powerboat has hasn't been in water in ages. It'll go to other hands within a month, and construction will begin on another "lift-over-the-head" immediately.

My question... is it justifiable self defense to let a few round go in the hulls of those butt-wipes that think it's fun to swamp the old guy in his little wooden boat?

I was thinking you were referring to the bottomless money pit they create...but I love them just the same :)

The two greatest days in a man's life:

  1. The day he buys a boat.
  2. The day he sells that boat.

Guns don't pass that test. Maybe #1, never number #2.

  1. A safe-queen doesn't cost you any money...yet you still can enjoy it (think fondle).
  2. A marina-queen costs you a whole heck of a lot of money...and you're not enjoying it by definition.

So I refute the hypothesis that guns are like boats.

I was at a gun show 10 years ago trying to sell a carry in 1903 Turkish Mauser For $55.
I was old, gray haired, unshaved, dressed like I was homeless, and had a bank envelope in my pocket full of $100 dollar bills.

Some other old man that looked as bad as me or worse, dickered and dickered me until we settled on $50.
And then he pulled out his money, a bank envelope full of $100s.

I think I bought a break action 12 ga for $20 before I left.

guns are like boats in a certain respect. i use my gun to git sum nice deer meat. which i love. i use my boat to get some nice crappie, white bass and catfish meat.so its all about the meat for me.

I want to live somewhere I can pull my kayak down the hill from my shed, put it on a large body of water, toss a .410 and my trapping/snaring supplies in it, hop in and spend the entire day paddling around taking my limit in small game and checking traps/snares along the water's edge. Paradise.

...sorry, was I daydreaming again?

I hate Boats and love Guns, so they can't be similar, plus all of my friends have boats and I don't even go on theirs. On the other hand they don't shoot. So I don't see any paralell. I can work on a gun in my Kitchen and shoot it for under 50 dollars, my friends need 3-500 for the day, just to go speeding around, until something breaks. If my gun get's me annoyed I can easily sell it not lose much if anything and get a new one.Try that with a boat, plus a safe to keep your boat in, is is a lot more money

I must be one of the lucky boat guys. Mine is nearly 30 years old and still runs like new...A gunsmith occasionally gets my money. A boat mechanic has hardly ever.

Amen, brother!

Take her deep, and take her down
Where no other human being can be found
Below the surface where it's dark and green
Down to the sea in a big black submarine

Left the wife and the kids behind
Most other people say I've lost my mind
Can't see the sun and I can't see the sky
But it's my life and I don't know why

Take Her Deep, Tommy Cox
