Been waiting long over 90 days here in Columbus County NC.
Anyone having any problems????
Sheriff just will say," I'll call when it's ready?

Hence the problem with NC CCW. It all depends on the Sheriff's office. I believe they are supposed to have an answer for you by 90 days, but you may be dealing with a sheriff with a lot in his inbox, or that sheriff is a bit gun shy (no pun intended) about sending CCWs out the door.

Either way, I am sorry you have to wait so long.

There have been a lot of applications in North Carolina recently for concealed carry
permits and I bet there is quite a backlog in most counties. Ninety days is longer
than I had to wait. (five weeks in Wake County a couple of years ago) I hope you
don't have to wait much longer, I wore out my answering machine at home checking
it for that call from the Wake County Sheriffs Office when I was waiting for my
permit.

Even though things can be slightly different by County, in Lackawanna County PA it takes about 20 minutes or so to get your LTCF. (license to carry firearms) You make out the application, show your drivers license, pay the $20 then wait for the background check. After you clear the background check they take your picture, laminate the card, hand you your card and wish you a good day. This is as it should be in a fairly free state for a law abiding citizen. (if they must issue licenses)

A neighboring County's new Sheriff decided he would no longer hand you the license when you apply and decided to send it through the mail instead. No one could figure out why he decided to mail your license since he was putting it in the mail that day and did no further checks before issuing. The uproar was so loud that only lasted a few months.

This making people wait 30, 60 or 90 days just to make you wait is also ridiculous and only serves to harass good law abiding people. There is no good reason to hold up someone's carry license just to hold it. Like I said, only the law abiding go through the process, the criminals don't bother.

I love my state, Washington. It takes almost no effort or money to get your CCW. And I live in an adjacent county to Oregon so I got my permit for them too. Its funny that most people think you have to go to Multnomah county (Portland) to get Oregon permit, which is one of the worst places on the west coast for gun rights, but I went to Columbia county, St Helens and very rural, and they took my info and my prints and gave me my permit in about 3 weeks. I'm good for 4 years. :D

The "I love my state" comments and description of your state's system seems largely unhelpful.

No, Sheriff has nothing to do with your CCW permit. You make an appointment, and they only take your prints, fill out some paperwork, and then mail it to Raleigh. Sheriff's are in charge of Pistol Purchase Permits, but get no say in CCW permits. Also, on December 1, 2011, we changed it to 45 days maximum, beginning once all your documentation is in. It says "within 45 days after receipt of the items listed in G.S. 14‑415.13 from an applicant, and receipt of the required records concerning the mental health or capacity of the applicant."

That means it can actually take as long as 45 days AFTER they get the info from the mental health record sources. Now mine took 31 days from the day of application, back in June of 2012. My dad's took 26 days from day of application, and my uncle's took about 28 days, if I remember correctly. It was well under the 45 day max. We're in different counties, and all applied within a week's time of each other.

A friend of mine missed the call for his. He called a few times after the 45 days, got the "I'll call when it's ready" response. When he went in about a month later, they told him his had been in for well over a month. I believe his had come in after about 30 days as well. I would actually GO to the sheriff's office and see what's up. It's very likely that you're getting people telling you the process, rather than actually checking to see if the permit is there. Go to CarolinaShootersClub for more people in the Carolina's, and see if anyone else is experiencing the same stuff.

Just got mine today in communist NY after 7 months wait. What a relief. The judge was very nice I must say. Now I need to get something before dictator Cuomo's 7 round law takes effect. Good luck to me as all the guns that were interesting to me are all sold out with no eta. And they only had 10 rounds ! NY sucks.

90 days is about par for the course in most NC counties these days. My county used to take only about 2 weeks, while those around me were 60 days or more. But they all seem to be about 90 now.
Why in the world would it take 90 days to issue a carry permit? What do they do in those 90 days except check you out the first day and keep the paperwork on their desk for the next 89 days. I just don't understand the abuse aimed at law abiding citizens, it's just treating you wrong!

You actually have to go in front of a judge to get a carry permit in NY? Why in the world should it take a judge to get a carry permit? Like I said above, "I just don't understand the abuse aimed at law abiding citizens, it's just treating you wrong!"
