I would like to find out more about the Sig 2022 in 9mm. I was looking at lunch today and saw one for $499.

That seems like a great deal for a Sig. What do I need to know before I buy one?

My wife can't get a good grip on my Glock 26 so I am looking for something we could both shoot. She has small hands so that is the reason I am looking. The gun won't be for her but I would like her to know how to use it if she ever needed to. I appreciate any and all feedback.

I got mine when they were 350 and it is an absolute steal at that price. I like mine a lot and it shoots great. If your wife has small hands you'll want to order the small grip for it

A woman friend in Texas just picked up a Sig 2022. She has small hands and likes the way it handles. She's currently looking for 9mm Luger
ammo. I compared the dimensions to a 1911.

Bbl. length 3.9" vs 5"
Overall Length 7.7" vs 8.57"
Overall Height 5.7" vs 5.5"
Weight 29 oz vs 40.0

so the Sig's polymer frame aves weight
seems tall for it's length.

She (and you) will like it fine. I have one and really like it. I found a great deal on a used one and gave it to a buddy of mine. The are accurate, reliable, and fun to shoot. $499 is a bit high but in today's market it doesn't surprise me.

I prefer the fact that it is hammer fired with a decocker but I do not like the fact it comes with one one mag and replacements (if you can find them) run $40-50.

Are there other full size 9mms that would fit small size hands that I should also be looking at?

Just trying to get opinions before I rush out and spend money.

The price on the 2022 varies some because of the sights. You will cough up an extra $50 to $75 for tritiums. $499 is high even for night sights. A gritty trigger can be fixed easy enough.

Another option for smaller hands is the Taurus PT111. Trigger pull is fairly long but it is light for a double action only.

We paid $450 for ours with the Sig laser and both grips. Wife picked it out after fondling a bunch. She really likes it. Only draw was it only comes with one mag, spares are very tough to find right now.

I found these two digging through a big used mag bin at the LGS.

It's a solid gun. My 229 elite is much more refined but the 2022 works and is accurate. Pre owned mine was just 299, which I thought was a steal.

They are great pistols, but $500 seems pretty high (unless it has night sights and extra mags).

Palmetto State Armory was selling them for $370 as recently as December.

Most of the major mfg have something that will work. The M&P comes with three different backstraps with each unit and is a pretty good shooter. I'd still go with a hammer fired pistol. Walther ppq if you can find one has a great trigger and a smaller grip but thats a .380. Bersa thunder 9 uc pro worked for me and my wife, and the steel frame helped dampen the recoil, but it isn't technically a full sized pistol. They do make a full size, I just haven't shot it. A used non-polymer sig in 9mm wold be nice (229, 226) but they may be a bit big for small hands. I'd head to a range with rental guns and see what fits.

S&W mp 9c might be a better fit for two different hands. Excellent feel but lousy trigger. This gun needs a trigger job

499 sounds high for a 2022.

You can find them for less. buckeyearmory.com sells them for about $450. LGS in Cincinnati (Target World) has a factory certified used P226 for $562. Sorry. I'd shell out the $100 more and get the all-steel gun. I hear it's a great shooter for the price. I'd stay as close to $350 as possible. CDNN was listing them for $390 in December, before the lunacy.

Well, when I read your OP, I was all set to tell you how it was overpriced, but I did a little research and even Buds is $479 right now. Maybe they've just gone up. I got mine a few months back for $399, but a lot has changed since then.

I will tell you, it is an excellent weapon. Very accurate. I laugh when people say how bad the trigger is because I went from a S&W Sigma to the 2022. I know all about terrible triggers. In comparison, it's very nice.
I like the gun so much, I would say even at $500 it's a good buy.

I wanted a 2022 for long time...until I had the chance to handle one. The grip was just too big for me and out was stretch to get a good purchase on the trigger in DA. So...one can get them with smaller grips?

I have a SP2022 and it is a terrific pistol but for smaller hands I suggest the remarkable Walther PPQ. They are hard to find right now but the M2 version with push button magazine release will be out soon. The Walther P99 AS is also just as good but DA/SA like trigger action in a striker fired pistol. I own both the SP2022 and PPQ.

the trigger is gritty and stacks

I think the trigger smooths out over time

Depends.

Bought the wife a SP2022 in nine (on sale for $399) and the trigger was pretty nasty. A few hunnert rounds and a few cleanings & it was smooth & nice.

Bought one for myself and the trigger was GTG out of the box. Doesn't shoot as well as the wife's though. :(

Both guns are accurate enough and both have been absolutely 100% reliable with a variety of ammos.

Yes... the magazines are pricey (if you can even find any right now)
