And revolvers were once called pistols. Terminology becomes more precise with time, so what?
How could I possibly know that the detachable magazines I posted would draw so much comment. Ah but wait, were they magazines or were they clips?
The guys who made these things, as pointed out, long before we were blessed with the Internet, chose to call them clips. So who would I be to argue?
When I was a kid there were things every kid wanted. There was always that fine rimfire rifle that was on the last page of "Boys Life" magazine be it a Winchester, Marlin or Remington bolt action .22 rifle. The most wanted list went on to include treasures like a fine set of Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, or Lone Ranger
Pistols. Nobody ever received from Santa Clause a Revolver, they received a pistol assuming they made the Nice List! The final list item was the Red Ryder BB Gun and as everyone knows you will shoot your eye out with one of those.
Now I figure things this way. If the guys who made the gun chose to call it a pistol and not a revolver then it is a pistol. If you want to believe Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, or the Lone Ranger carried revolvers verse pistols then cool with me as I don't really care. Well maybe I do care a little.
I was one of those kids growing up during the 50s. Yes, that makes me old today. Matter of fact 63 years old as of a week ago.
Now we really go off topic!
When we get older our patience seem to grow thinner. Things that never bothered us during our 30s, 40s or even 50s seem to just piss us off as we by miraculous means pass 60. We seem to run out of patience with what I have come to call hopeless pedantic people. Here is an example:
Dear Forum, I have a S&W Model 29 pistol I am really fond of. Now enter a dozen hopeless pedantic types to tell me the S&W Model 29 is a revolver. This as the remaining readers who are gun savvy know exactly what the gun is and what it looks like. Whether I choose to call it a pistol or revolver matters not as long as those reading what I wrote know what the gun is.
Now to my simple older way of thinking pedantic people are just a group of people begging for opportunities to broadcast to the world how bright they are or at least seem to think they are. Whatever patience for pedantic people I once may have had are gone with my feeble fading memory. Actually I despise them because now I see them as idiots.
Call it a clip or call it a magazine as long as you and the reader can close their eyes and know what it is would be all that really matters
